Can I get a quick answer on altitude travel? I decided to do something a little different tonight, so I logged in, put on a flight attachment, went in to fly mode over my parcel, locked the "e" key down -- and went off in rl to dinner. Three hours later I'm back, but the last altitude my attachment could record is 558,642 meters. Not sure whether that's even accurate -- and it's not registering anymore.
I've stopped and am hanging up here, but I'd sure like to know how high I am. Rezzing objects on my body doesn't work, I can't take pictures, and my av is starting to look pretty damned scary.
Anyone know how I might get a good Z fix? Thanks.

Oh, by the way -- it's kind of spectacular up here. Everything is deep indigo except for a line of rich teal and robin's egg blue on the horizon, and the sun is doing weird fluctuation things. As am I....
on edit: I'm going onward and upward while I do other things in RL. Someone answer me when you can....

Just take a manual (out-of-game) screen shot (ctrl + alt + Prt Scr) and paste into Photoshop or MS Paint or something... I can't help with anything else, I haven't done SL space travel.  |

Attachments do bad things at high altitude and they can't be fixed easily....
My record is a bit over 600,000 and then I crashed...
I plan on scripting a constant Z vector push to propel myself up someday and just sort inventory....
it is very peaceful and tranquil up there....
I think past 100,000 the edge of the game no longer applies, you could fly to someone's private sim... but you would be ghosted when you land, relog and you are back at the mainland....
Try a freefall and time it! set your a chute to open at 512 meters and fall slowly back into draw distance for the ground...
for quick decent just relog it will log you back at 250 meters and you will fall about 75-100 meters while the world loads before you get controls....

I don't know how high I am. Nothing works, but I am saving pictures to disk. The horizon just lost its color, and the whole skybox filled in overhead with this beautiful blue color, except for a black "hole" at the very top. The sunspots on the sun are now unobscured -- very visible.
My AV is cross-eyed.... Seriously.
Upward....
on edit: name title has turned from tan/orange to light gray and started dancing around my AV's head. Now it's beginning to dance around my AV's upper body.
on edit: sounds no longer work.

Save pictures to disk no longer works, dammit!!!
On edit: There's a limit up here where the blue sky and sun are lost and everything turns to black. I just came down a bit, and I've got the sun and sky and save pictures to disk function back. Gonna try to photo that limit.

I took my wings up to 1 million, the elevation meter never stopped working. somewhere a bit before 1 million everything but me went black and my attachments just dissapeared (although they still worked and hovering text was still there). Was interesting.
Also interesting is when i got back down all the shiny overlays were broken. the normal sky overlay that is shiney had turned two color.

In the debug menu, theres an option somewhere in there on a menu with VOD on it, its a submenu, I forget what its called, but in this submenu there is stuff that'll show you stuff like your current avatar x,y,z and your camera x,y,z etc. on your screen. I used that when taking my screenshots (as well as an altemeter(sp) from skydiving) and it worked well. So try looking for that, somewhere in the Debug in a submenu with VOD (or something like that).
