If you're stuck in an area with a downed server, does that cause you to crash at precache? Or is it some other problem? I just got desperate because it's late and my problem isn't listed on any site.

Alexander, hiya and welcome to Second Life.
Have you had problems relogging in -- granted that you've tried that already? Another thing you can do is click on a link like the following to reset your location:secondlife://Ahern/128/128/ It should send ya back near the Welcome Area, safe and sound. If you're still crashing, try cleanly uninstalling and reinstalling. Please provide more details and we'll be able to help ya out. Cheerio! ![]() _____________________

Hm...

Link crashed for me as well with an additional message about servers (client shut on me before I got a chance to do anything however) and whenever it crashes it always crashs in the middle of precacheing, and it leaves the same exact exlaimation mark in a triangle logo that's on the forums in my active processes on my toolbar untill I click on it (then it goes away)
Edit: Did a fresh and clean re-install but it's still giving me the same problems... Could this be because I took my videocard out to check the fan and put it back in after I shut down my PC the last time? plus when I exited second life I turned my computer off because of what I thought was an overheating issue, could that have damaged my account in any way? And finally. How on earth can I fix this or get this fixed? my other games work flawlessly |

You can try the following:
Load up SL, but don't login, click Preferences instead, under General (first tab), look at the top for Login Location, change it to My Home instead of My Last Location. Hit OK then login. I'm not sure if that will work or not, but its worth a try. Other than that I've no ideas, hopefully someone else will! You could also try emailing support@secondlife.com but they might not get back to you untill a day or two, theres also the phone number and the technical and hotline forums. _____________________

I've done that too, it seems no matter what I crash at precache now. I have no idea if it's my computer clashing or SL itself (drive issue? I dunno) all I know is, before this all started happening I turned off my computer while in a laggy area and now I cannot login again. I've tried everything!, tried updating drivers, scanning for spyware and viruses, and more... (SL doesn't use any java componants does it by the way? I've had tons of java trouble lately) uninstalling (clean) and reinstalling, but I still hit the same snag.
Also sent an email to support, hopefully I can get some answers. I don't want a major bug/issue sour my experiences during my trial |

To my knowledge SL does not use any Javascript or Java.
In a last ditch effort if support by email (or no one can provide an answer on the forums here) isn't getting back to you fast enough, heres the phone contact information: Customer Support Center Toll Free: (800) 860-6990 Hours: Monday - Friday - 8am-6pm PT. Closed weekends and US holidays. Hope something can be done. ![]() _____________________

Nuke the contents of the Second Life cache folder located at
C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\SecondLife\cache and see if that helps? _____________________

it appears my cache is corrupt, I think I hafta re-start in safe mode and clear it out. I think that's the problem.
edit: Just tried it, apparently I cannot delete anything corrupted no matter what I try. =( is there any method I can clear it short of formatting? |
