i accept building contest votes via im for first, second and third place. sometimes i weight them by place and add up everybody's points. other times i award entires that recieved the most first place votes and use the seconds and thirds as tie breakers. i wonder which y'all think is better and why.

also, i let the voters eliminate entires that have voilated the posted rules. they generally do a good job of it. blantent violations often are cited by statements such as "i would've voted for foo except for <violation>." this keeps me from having to make clear to everyone that an entry is disqualified and should not be considered. that's very hard to do when i accpet votes over a twenty-four hour period. am i wrong to rely on people's sense of fairness for this?

Since everyone had to read the rules to vote in your contest, I think that you can assume that people know the rules; I think voting for more than one entry helps make the choice of second and third place more fair, especially when one or two entries are the overwhelming favorites.

I agree Barbarra for the type of contest Khamon is holding where the voting goes on for 24 hours at least. In a simple venue like Show & Tell I prefer that people just vote for the Best of Show.

at least. i might have to extend the current voting period for the underwater contest in zoe. i think philip's announcement must have distracted everybody. y'all come look at these entries. they are truly amazing.

take a few minutes to swim through zoe and see the underwater housing units. we're gonna leave the builds up over the halloween weekend. they're too marvolous to take down just because the contest is over.

contest results are posted in the special events forum.
