What is the status of this great undertaking? Is it up and running? It appears not to be as of yet...

I believe the RR is close to completion. Athos Murphy has been working on the script for it, with the help of others, including, I believe, Christopher Omega.

Khamon, do you know any more about the status of the RR?

as far as i know, at this point, there are just a few details to work out, e.g. timing of the stops.

the railroad track is complete through periwinkle, maroon, magenta and slate. a trolley car is built and the script has been simplified so that the trolley crosses borders seamlessly with a few people on board.

i'm sure athos will post something when it's finalized. i'll allow that a festive event will herald the opening of the line as well.

Absolutely. When it's up and running, you and me Oz -- and hopefully it'll be shiny too :D

Also, are those railroad thingies near Umber (bridge and stuff, I think) gonna be put to use in the future? ;)

So, what will happen when the trolley runs past Bingoland, and there are avis sitting on the tracks with bingo cards trying to get a Texas Blackout? Will it merrily run them over, with appropriate gory graphics? :D

Feel free to utilize space in BonnyDoon, Montara, Phobos, and Europa for the project on University of SL land.

Hopefully. I can't play SL between certain times of the day simply because my build "faces" the bingoland park. Squished grannies and their bingo cards would be relatively decent entertainment. :p

Shouldn't you run a vote on this first?

That was kind of fun.

On a related note, Azelda Garcia had a go-cart track a while back. When the carts fell off, they just sensed the nearest track section and setpos'd back to it, with the same rotation.

Worked pretty good. You could play the same trick with the train :)

If it helps prevent virtual Amtraks, I'm all for it. :)

This really sounds exciting to me and I look forward to the fruits harvested from the people who put so much hard work into it.

I'd like to put on a conductor hat and play cards in the caboose, or something. Three kinds of trains I'd like to see in SL:

-futuristic (yes, cyberpunk) maglev Japanese ultrabullet train

-Thomas the Tank engine gone horribly, horribly wrong (after drugs and booze)

-Blaine the Mono (of Stephen King's Dark Tower fame -- it could be BOTH a train and an event! Imagine that!)

Too neat for words! I just noticed train tracks the other day and mentioned to my friend that SL trains would be very cool. I had no idea this was already in the works!

Heheh, I want one of those handcarts two people pump down the track.

Good stuff!! Keep it up!!

Hmm, a handcart with animation would be a great idea. Hmm.

We've been making some progress in the last couple of weeks with more script help from Garth Fairlight, fresh off his triumphs of scripting for Neverland!

in fact, the trolley is operating up and down the track. drop by the slate or periwinkle station and hop on.

I myself rode the trolley up and down the track several days ago.

It's sad that it's not several train cars in a row, but it's nice nonetheless. Maybe LL'll ask for the code for their Luna trolley? Or ask Garth to just set his up there?
