OMG!

I have just rang my ISP company and nearly tore their heads off down the phone line.

We were told yesterday that someone needed to be in my house from 8am - 12pm cos this was the call out time, SO I arranged for this to be, after lots of faffing about and blackmail.

I ring them up about 30 mins ago, 1pm and ask where the hell the engineer is as I have had to pay someone to wait all this time (lies but pfft), they tell me first off to ring them back, so I refuse, and tel them I want answers like NOW, so.. they tell me the engineer has been, so my response, I am sorry, but that is utter BOLLOCKS, someone has been in my house since 8pm last night and it hasn't been empty since, oh and there is NO card on my doormat, so WHERE ARE YOU...

They put me thru to some stupid call centre, where I cannot understand a word the man is saying and LO AND BEHOLD after reeling off the story to him, HIS SYSTEM DIES and he tells me to call back in an hour, so I yell and scream and tell him I am NOT moving from the phone until I speak to someone who can fix this shit. (i didn't say shit, was very tempted tho), know what he did, PUT THE FUCKING PHONE DOWN ON ME.

So I ring back AGAIN and get a nice lady, who I am nearly in tears with rage to by this time and I am now awaiting her call to tell me whats going on.

WTF?! ALL THEY NEED TO DO IS GIVE ME A CABLE MODEM... IT BLEW UP, NEW ONE WOULD FIX IT, END OF STORY.

The reschedule date they tried to tell me was the 26th March well FUCK THAT, NTL are the most appauling bunch of wankers I have EVER known and I would strongly advise anyone with them to disconnect now and get the bunch of raving monkeys with herpes that live in your SHOE to set up your Cable connection, cos their service cannot be any worse

/rant

/start heart attack...

Ok..

So AGAIN, on the phone to some nice English guy, my mum explains the situation and he said hang on madam I'll ring the engineer, HE RANG THEM, and THE CALL IS STILL OPEN FOR THEM TO COME?!?!

Ok so now I am mad and confused and ready to kill someone, its quite obvious that no-one in that company knows what the fuck the other is doing.

Anyone got any good suggestions for Brit Broadband?

Glah, Will! :( Sounds like it'd be a heckuva lotta stress-saving if ya just went out and got your own cable modem. Not that the idiots at this place shouldn't be able to simply get you a replacement. Cable companies seem to have notorious service no matter *where* you are. Mediacom's our cable company here, and their service is a joke.

Actually, wheelie, I somehow doubt that NTL would allow or support your own modem, or even if it would work correctly. The way the engineers register their modems by mac address and serial to your account when they install would indicate to me that you're unlikely to be able to plug n play it.

*pout* Yeah, what Kris says is true. I know they allow you to have your own cable modem here in the States, but even then NTL would have to register its MAC address and serial number. When I got mine, I just logged on to a website and clicked on a Register button. I dunno how NTL would handle it...

*sigh* Stupid ISP Companies.

Well,,

It appears between my mum and I we kicked up that much of a stink the engineer JUST turned up.

He went to 46 before not number 47......

If they don't fix their shit now... they die...

Willow,

NTL is known to be a crap company run by crap staff. Anybody who has had any dealings with them has an NTL story.

Get rid of them and sign up with a good company like Plus Net. Their site is at www.plus.com. I have been with them for about two years, and have no complaints at all about the service they provide. Not only that, in April they will be implementing a new system which will allow broadband users to run at the highest speed allowed by their telephone line. The tiers in their service will represent the bandwidth you are allowed to use.

Have a look and see what you think

Chain the technician up in the basement....that way next time you have trouble he's already there to fix it....and if he's useless you can beat him to help get the frustartion out :D

btw, when you've calmed down, wheels... perhaps you could tell me what the fuck you're on? lol

I just took off my shoe and gave it a good shake and I can assure you there is not even a single raving monkey with herpes in there.

I wish I could say this is the case, but in my journeys through the wire, it hasn't -- I've had numerous problems with Canadian ISP support over the years... and several of the big companies do have a reputation for avoiding their customers and price-hiking and funnily-worded terms of service. I've tried to be patient but there are some times when it will get frustrating to -- well, I'll just say I can relate to Willow's story.

That kind of inefficiency really sucks because it wastes everyone's time. :(

I've been there. Well, not *I* personally, but a friend of mine.
His modem broke and he was having a hard time getting them to replace it.
What did he do?
Well around here DSL and cable comes in kits that have all the hardware and software you need in order to get online.
So he went and bought a new kit for the same ISP, as if he didnt even have internet in the first place. He plugged in the new modem, it worked fine and no one ever complained.

Yeah I thought about that, but NTL have a stupid special way of ensuring only their modems work with their connections etc, and well... BAH i say BAH...

It won't help. The service is at about the same level here. They have the same charming trick of getting you to wait around for four or five hours during the time you should've been at work and then not showing up and all the rest of it just as you described Willow. It seems to be a worldwide MO of cable internet providers. I wouldn't be suprised to see a news item where a cable truck was hijacked and the technician forced at gunpoint to fix the internet of a frustrated customer. There just aren't enough alternative broadband providers to make them to pay attemtion to customer satisfaction.
