I am the world's worst web designer. I stink like French women after they eat French cheese in August. But I want a website for the Bhodi Tree Artists Collective. Something that has discussion boards, a place to post images, and maybe a nice looking home page that I can update with news and general happiness. Since I suck, and I know that most of you DON'T suck, I"m willing to pay someone $100.00 (that's right, $100.00, not L100.00!) to build this damn thing for me. I will have design flats ready by the end of next week, and will just need someone to cut them up and code them into a real website. Anyone interested? Either leave me a note here or PM me.

Also, does anyone have some web server space they'd like to give me REAL cheap to host this thing? It won't be a huge resource drain, I'm sure!

Hey Bhodi, I'm VERY interested :)
Let's talk about it in more detail. For the record I have a large amount of experience with all sorts of web technologies. I could provide you free hosting if you're willing to have your site hosted in portugal :p

Thanks, Eggy. Actually, I just got a "kick in the butt" private email about having gotten really lazy lately and not doing things like this myself. I used to LOVE learning how to do things on the computer - but lately I've just been farming out the difficult tasks. So, to the person who kicked my butt, thank you!

I think I'll take this one myself. But if anyone still wants to offer simply a home page that I can link a variety of other things to, let me know.

Oh, and the new EZBoard for the BTAC, if you'd like to leave us a message, is:

THanks, Bhodi who is Gettin' Off Her Butt on this one

Eggy's page is nice but prolly hard to update. My pages would be very easy to update, and I can make them do whatever you need.

Well, I own www.goldbullet.com where we do 'em proffessionally! www.scenicnet.com too. We can give it to you for less than 100 dollars, that's for sure, and probably in about a week.

Actually I just setup a web page on http://www.ipowerweb.com which offers 100mb space, lots of emails and bandwith for $8 a month. If you are willing to plunk down $100 that might be the best option. Why?

The most amazing control panel I have seen.
- LOTS of web page templates that anyone who can post on a forum can create a nice webpage in minutes.
- Want a forum of your own? Click a button and enter a master password to go through a setup wizard.
- Want a blog? See above.
- Want a news front end? See above.

Everything I had ever thought 'ooh I should have a webpage that does that some day' was an option to already have go with this service. Web uploads and FTP.

I get no commision for this, nor am I affiliated with them in any way except using them to host a site I setup for a business and knowing that as soon as my service gets close to expiring I'm switching to them.

Actually the webpage says 800mb hosting right now, not 100.

I can show mine, but the roll-overs don't work unless you're on mac... damn the free Tripod site variables!!!

http://thego-aways.tripod.com

(*Ok, I know there is nothing on there except the pretty site-ness, but I just finished it, and my band isn't being VERY cooporative :^p And for the record... I'm still in Web Design school, so... eh... it'll get better, I promise)

Holy CRAP Ama that looks great....has the price of that kind of service dropped all over or is that just a good deal?

I'm thinking about designing a new webpage (fanpage) myself, maybe I'll go with them...

I also use ipowerweb. They've improved greatly, and offer a great deal. Mine is about $95 a year -- maybe cuz it's paid in advance(?) so a bit less than $8. I definitely recommend.

Another one I've been testing out is domainnamesanity.com. For $20 you get a domain and a full year of hosting for a small website. The tools are rudimentary, but not bad if you know html. I've been testing it for about 3 weeks now and have no complaints.

Their support department is great - same day response and excellent follow through. I asked for a service they don't yet officially offer and they wrote back in an hour and said sure, and set it up immediately. I was impressed.

Relee that "page" is a gigantic system that took a team of 5 people 6 months to do and cost the government about $300,000 USD. Everything you see is stored in a RDBMS which is easily editable through a "BackOffice" menu-driven interface coded by us as well.
There's two versions, a flash-heavy one where every page is like 2 megs, for the touchscreen app running in the museum, and a lighter one (what you see) made mostly with XSLT.
The website and flash apps both parse XML which is auto-generated by ASPs that access the RDBMS, so whenever you play with the pretty menu-driven back-end the results are instantly shown on all the front-ends.
Not only is it easy to update, it is trivial to re-use the codebase for other websites. Actually when I left that company they were getting that software to the point where it would automatically generate everything based on the database schema - no back-end configuration necessary.
There's no point in arguing anyway, if you read her post you will see she doesnt want anyone to do her web page anymore.

Eggy's right, I've decided to brush up on my very rusty HTML skills and learn to do the page myself! But you all do great work - thanks for sharing it with us!

hehe Don't worry about it Relee - eggy's long reply also means he isn't going to be able to build a comparable site that is updatable by himself for $100. If he can, someone way overpaid for $300,000 and 5 people working for 6 months.

Oh I wish........

I had have joined SL before I contracted my company website out to two, not one, but two, incompetant web designers in Aus. I can see how clever lots of you people are!

Oh, how I have learned the hard way.

After spending $3,000 it is now in the hands of another designer, fingers crossed it will but up in 3 weeks after 6 months of utter......not going to say it......bulll!

I hope you guys that build sites for people don't treat your customers like Mushrooms!

Best wishes to you all for Christmas and the New Year! ;)

xxx's Huggs, Sky.
