Ever wonder.. thought to yourself and wondered.. I wonder what's 'up' there (in the night skies over SL). I've takin into the account of lookin at several instictive patterns in the chaos. In some strange way, it helps clear the mind of the troubles of some things going on in SL and elsewhere. Opening up your mind and thoughts to totally new aspects of life.
There ARE little hints up there in the night skies over SL. Take a quick look.. doesn't hurt does it? It quickly reminds yourself of the simpler things in life, and how we enjoy just being there.
(grins) Perhaps you'll see the pattern of burningman in the night sky.. (somewhere in the northeast).
And perhaps for a little gag, that maybe "There" is on the opposite end of the universe here.. encircling some big black hole.
Sometimes... the little things make it worth while of being apart of SL.

Funny thing about the atmospherics, I sometimes prefer to have it mimic my own local time (so I use the debug override-->sun follows mouselook to position it), or others I just like to see the stars too. When I first joined, I had this 'Snowcrash' vision of what the sky would be, and I was pleasantly suprised that having blue skies and sunsets were actually better than the metaverse version. (Which would be like it is when the sun is really low on the horizon, just a bit of orange glow fading to black skies.) Being able to override the sun is very cool, especially when you are working on something. Don't ask me how long it took me to figure out that working

I am always amazed at the night sky here in SL. I was flying in Georgian and caught a lunar eclipse! I was amazed, I landed my plane and took a pic of it during and after. I posted about it awhile back and go zero replies. The pics are still up in Minna 225,118.

You kicked me out the plane to do it. lol. Anyhoo, just jumping in to say that the first thing I did when I joined was to start building an observatory in Natoma dedicated to charting the skies of SL. The second thing I did was to found the Astronomical Society. The observatory project is on hold due to the constant 100% object usage, which is nice. But none the less, anyone who wants to get together and take a serious look at figuring out what all those little pixelly patterns in the sky are about, IM me in game!

(Personally, I liked the "angry pumpkin" moon we had during late October. Nice touch.)

Just simply put: never know what you might see up there. It's a nice relaxing way of winding down for the night or perhaps just being curious.
The Lindens however, do deny any involvement in making the skies the way they are, however it leaves us to the great mystery of what could be up there. Besides.. if they told.. it wouldn't be a mystery anymore. There's little, life valuable lessons to be learned here.. whether big or small. they're there.

Sorry, I meant the quote from 'Snowcrash' by Neal Stephenson. He makes a reference (of many) to the virtual online world, the 'Metaverse' where people do biz and socialize, etc.. In that world, the horizon has a glow like a sunset, fading to black as you look skyward. This is perpetual however, and I guess that's just the way the creators liked it. I'm happily suprised by the Secondlife version

I understand, Maxx; I wasn't correcting you, just throwing in another, vagely-relevant, reference of my own.

Then, uh....I concur!!
Hehe.
You are right though, but I'd have to re-read my books to remember how he described the net at that time. I think the tv screen tuned to a dead channel comment was the 'sky' of the dome surface that covered the 'Sprawl', if memory serves me correctly.
