Is there any groups that have established Best Practices for texturing, building, and scripting in SL to address restraints and resources? If not, would anyone consider doing so?

I wouldn't mind JOINING (not leading) a group for building.

I've developed tons of techniques and whatnot to share with the rest of ze world.

Not to my knowledge is there a diverse group that has embraced these "best practices" issues. There are a number of people and specific groups in SL who have addressed these issues on a sim-wide or community-wide basis. Often groups who own a whole sim or the majority of it will all use the same set of textures on their builds to reduce loading time. And there are people who tout their ability to streamline builds to reduce prim usage (Eggy Lippman comes to mind).

I was thinking less about conventions and more about practices to maximize return on resources. Like texture sizes, prim usage and manipulation.

I think it would be interesting to have a group that would review builds/scripts voluntarilly submitted and make suggestions for further optimization. It'd be a nice way for scripters and builders to learn-- sort of a peer review on builds.

e.g.: "You could save four prims by doing this..." or "If you use this event handler, your script is faster and simpler," etc.
