Well, after more experimentation with trans-dimensional physics, I've apparently raised the ire of more of those green-tinted prim zombies (The original post relating to this has been lost on the forums... they are small, green colored cubes that have been banished to the nether-regions between deleted prims and our SL world). Previously I was able to push them back through the gate, but this time they've somehow been able to lock onto our dimension and teleport in at will! These things are highly dangerous... they feed upon the energy of your avatar, making a theoretical infinite number of duplicates of itself, thus increasing the anarchy! I cannot tell where or when they will attack, but I know it will be soon. Early reports seem to indicate a predilection for crowds of people on the mainland, so perhaps safety in numbers isn't the best maxim... The best defense is a good offense; arm yourself. Any sufficiently high-velocity gun (more than 50 meters/sec) will be sufficient to fully kill them. I will offer any updates that I can during this crisis. LF P.S. -- Beware... they're coming...

That is a breakthrough... BBC's earlier discoveries were right... about *booming voice* PRIMATIVES IN THE WILD!!!

I think he just said "I just made Green Slime v2.0, and it teleports now."

Nevermind.
After two (alleged) abuse reports, a bunch of confused people, an angry newbie or two and the realization that 90% of plots are set to 1 minute auto-return, I'm cancelling this experiment.
So much for that. Guess we won't see any harmless robots, or birds, or flowers, or anything else that requires a script to move over someone else's land for 2 seconds.
You know, SL is a game... don't treat it like a job. Lighten up.
Want to know what the zombies did? They found the nearest avatar, bumped into them (very slowly), then spawned a copy of itself (up to a maximum of 12 in a given area, so there wasn't a chance of them lagging the sim). They can be shot and immediately die upon doing so. They're harmless. It's a bit of fun.
Bah.
If you find the green things called "zombies", don't touch them. right click on them and delete them if they're on your plot.
Or shoot them, they're designed to die upon immediate impact from anything moving faster than 50 meters.

Aweee Lordfly I wish I could have seen them. A couple of bad eggs always spoil it for the rest of us. Maybe you can give the appreciative adults a special showing when the kiddies are all in bed?

-aimee No, because everyone's too busy trying to attract people to their plots so they can make MONEYMONEYMONEY. Clubs are all the rage, you see. And as long as all of your shenanigans are on your own land, no one cares. As soon as an interesting script leaves the confines of your precious little land tier, though... LF

LF Oh my god, THOSE zombies? The green floating cubes I saw a few days ago in the sandbox sim that were spamming things so fast that any chat anyone said anywhere disappeared faster than I could even blink? Yeah, yeah, I'm sure you worked out that bug, but... 1. Not everyone has a gun to shoot things with. I don't know how fast the Linden pop-gun goes, but I'm fairly certain it's not 50m velocities. 2. Bumping is not harmless, no matter how slow. Best to stick to Phantom, easy to see past/around/through objects. 3. Yeah, that auto-return timer's a bitch, ain't it? Last time I suggested we put a minimum value of something like two minutes or five minutes or sixty minutes or whatever, people gave birth to cows with three heads they were so upset. Should have used llScriptDanger though, because on no-script land, while they won't move around or replicate, they will get 'stuck' and won't die when shot. The land owner -will- be forced to remove them manually, or via auto-return. Plus, ScriptDanger would alert you to auto-return timers. It ends up limiting where your objects can go, yes, but until LL gets off it's ass and gives us better land-polling functions, it's the best we've got.

That was a result of debugging code gone awry. I took it out the next version and it was fine. From: someone 1. Not everyone has a gun to shoot things with. I don't know how fast the Linden pop-gun goes, but I'm fairly certain it's not 50m velocities.
That's funny, the first thing I see with 80% of newbies are big, shiny rocket launchers. From: someone 2. Bumping is not harmless, no matter how slow. Best to stick to Phantom, easy to see past/around/through objects.
Why? If someone gets in a tizzy about a cube nuzzling their arm very slowly, I suggest they go play outside for a good week until they realize that SL isn't reality. From: someone It ends up limiting where your objects can go, yes, but until LL gets off it's ass and gives us better land-polling functions, it's the best we've got.
No, it ends up making them entirely useless. EVERY OTHER PLOT was set to no-build or no-script, OR autoreturn, or ALL THREE. That makes llDangerScript entirely pointless, because it's going to detect it on 99% of the plots out there, and hence make the zombie not move. And hence, the experiment is ruined. Although, it was ruined by human nature anyway. LF

From: Lordfly Digeridoo That's funny, the first thing I see with 80% of newbies are big, shiny rocket launchers. Lemme put it another way. I don't own a gun. Or if I do, I don't know about it. From: Lordfly Digeridoo Why? If someone gets in a tizzy about a cube nuzzling their arm very slowly, I suggest they go play outside for a good week until they realize that SL isn't reality. Because it's still bumping. For example, I had something vaguely similar released in the sandbox sim yesterday. Basically, it was smokey, color changing wisps that were phantom and would go around hivering over people's heads. They didn't self replicate, they were just generated by a generator I hid in a 1:4:9 monolith. Phantom, now. Remember that. I had one person -screaming- at me that my wisps had launched their <insert name of object here> into the edge of the sim. That my objects were going around knocking things around and such. I insisted this wasn't the case. They pressed the issue. I went back to the sandbox and very carefully checked the situation, and told him again, it wasn't the case. He then shut up. If a phantom moving object can make someone so paranoid that they believe it to be causing them problems, think about what a solid moving object would do? From: Lordfly Digeridoo No, it ends up making them entirely useless. EVERY OTHER PLOT was set to no-build or no-script, OR autoreturn, or ALL THREE. That makes llDangerScript entirely pointless, because it's going to detect it on 99% of the plots out there, and hence make the zombie not move. And hence, the experiment is ruined. Yeah, welcome to my world. Enjoy your stay. Want to help make a difference? Start asking for better LSL tools and ask that the limitations of no-script/no-build be relaxed a bit. You'll get a large portion of the forum community biting your head off, but... *shrug*

I ran into your green cubes about an hour ago LordFly. No amount of clikcing, shooting, deleting or returning made any difference, they didn't die until a Linden came and killed them all. Not only that but several of them had wedged inside the struts in my tower in Indigo - bump bump lag lag, literally inside my prims in such a way that I would have had to mess about quite a bit to get at them. Not distressing as such, just mildly irritating and intriguing really. Jai
