Okay, Linden Lab, I dare you.

Here's a technological solution to kill two birds with one stone: land scanners and part of land barony:

- Release land now sends an email to an email list.

Said email list is free to join.

Very good idea. May I add a small technical improvement?

Just don't send around emails. Make it a feed (RSS or Atom; doesn't matter).

And ... as much as I like the solution. I fear that there is a lot of other interesting information that can be gathered with scanners. The solution you proposed may deliver valuable information to a lot of people who don't want to bother with scanner technology. I don't think it will put an end to self replicating scanners. ;)

The land scanners are primarily the problem now. As LL has said that basically they won't likely act until things reach "critical mass", we can swipe up two current problems AND empower the player base AND help LL fill up people's land tiers sooner (more $$$) all with the cost of an email server and a short, small data send procedure inserted to the land release code.

I have a better idea, don't make public land detectable by LSL. Make it return the same key for government land..

I have a better idea. Remove the concept of public land. It serves no purpose.
Released land will go to Governor Linden, set for sale to its previous owner at $1/sq. m. for an hour or so, and then it will go to auction.

Heh the problem with hiro's solution might be constant, mass pileups in sims with land released to public :)

I like this solution, especially with the RSS/Atom feed.

Plus, it gives SL a new job type, too: Realty Pouncer. :D

Mostly, I just like adding a useful tool to sove problems rather than removing useful tools. On that idea, Eggy's solution is also attractive as public land no longer serves any useful purpose that I can discern.

I think this is the best solution.

I believe this was discussed and rejected. That's why I proposed something else.
