Some thoughts about trial users:
We need to know who they are by looking. Can we get a label on the name like Trial User Joe Stone? Why? Well for one reason is they are often um, lacking social graces. I would like to know if someone I bumped into is a trial user who needs some mentoring edification or just a griefer.
Do they keep cards, rating and gift objects if they convert? What about if they win money at an event, does that go into their account if they convert?
And oh, they leave alot of garbage that can’t be deleted, like in Venice today, a great deal of HUGE prims were left behind. I couldn't delete them all, some were not on my land. So... there the crud sits until someone who can delete it does.
Anyone want to add anything?

A label is an awesome idea, Feniks. (8
I pretty much have the same comments/agreement as you. Some of them are fairly rude, but maybe they think we are all NPC's... hehe
I hope we get Linden clarification on your questions. (8

Adding to Fens statment about notification. #1 we rate its a common place amongst some of us to do that as we get a first impression of a person but if they really do not affect our economy nor our take home pay nor our ratings why should we be penalized fundage for rating.
Along with that when they buy stuff are we gypted at our stores and market places because said trial user spent monopoly money on an outfit that took 2 days to create.
You know this can be manipulated in a very bad way but I shant even discuss it here because then somebody would do it.
Oh well...just my two cents on the subject please feel free to add more I know where Fen is going with this and I do feel we need some crisper clarification on where in worlders stand with trial users.

I gave it a few moments thought to see if I could come up with a way that this feature would "hurt" the new people. I can't think of anything, but I'm sure there is.
I agree this would be an exellent idea for the reasons Feniks stated.

While one could figure out a newbie by checking their profiles, being able to see instantly whether the other person is a new user would be really useful.
I like the idea -- make it so trial users automatically default to a group called "Trial User", etc.

I like the idea -- make it so trial users automatically default to a group called "Trial User", etc. This was my initial thought, but I realized it wouldn't work. I've seen newbies that are already members of other groups. For that matter, I think I've seen groups that were created by newbies. All a noob would have to do is change their active group, and this idea is broken. However, in spite of this, I would like to see a "Trial User" group that people were automatically made members of, and automatically removed from at the appropriate time, just in case we actually get a llIsMemberOfGroup(key id, string group). Better yet, for scripting noob testing, a function that provides the avatar's age, in days, could be useful.

I like this idea. I think it would be a benefit to trial users because we'd know at a glance who might need an extra bit of help or advice (unless they already have the started cabin attached to their heads). They could default trial users to a trial user group and have the group management fieatures disabled. If they convert to a full account they'd then be able to change their group and drop the title.

integer llDetectedIsNoob(integer number);
returns TRUE/FALSE. Can be used to script giant arrows that float 1m over peoples heads and have a texture that reads "Noob".
Just a suggestion ;-)

Just a suggestion ROTFL! (good thing I wasn't eating my lunch when I read this, or I'd be cleaning tomato soup off the screen )

Ooh. Yes, I like this implementation. And it'd take care of the newbie groups that Grim mentioned quite nicely. Personally, it took me a few days to figure out the group thing, and I had to ask how to activate specific groups that I was a member of, but YMMV.

I totally agree with fen. Looking at a profile isnt the same as knowing. A new user or a trial user? isnt answered by looking at a profile. You know they are new, but you dont know if they plan to stay.

how about forced straightjackets? Actually in all realness, I agree with this and actually had a (free trial) Water Rogers type of testing tag at the Welcome area one day. All the noobs recognized me as their kind right away. However with the group idea.. this is still possible.. Free Trial "Nebie Name"... because if you ever look at the profile of a Linden, Liaison specifically... there is no groups for the Liaisons to switch between.. they just are. But I have seen them without the tags too, so I'm not sure on how that one works.. but perhaps the same idea could be applied as the Liaison group... and they could easily just disable group joining for newbie's just like scripting is disabled or uploading. Just a thought. --Water

Just a suggestion strangely enough, I saw a newbie last night who *did* have a large green arrow with a spinning texture that read 'Newbie' above his head... I vote they get handed out at Prelude

Yup, I saw the arrows in Morris and had a good laugh at them. Didn't catch an actual noob with it on, tho

Would suggest a different color also, such as White or Black, this would also be (I think) distinguishable to those that might be colored blind too.
Another option, if its possible is to just put an asterik by their floating name. Right off this would show they are a trial user and groups can't (I don't think) can use such in titles.
Just ideas but deffinately there needs to be a way to tell who is a trial user to those that are residents.

c'mon, if you were handed an optional arrow would *you* wear it? I wouldnt! Needs to be a non-option.

Green arrows

I made those green arrows with spinning "Newbie" text. I planted them for free copying in the trial area sandbox and gave them to a few, but most didn't seem to like wearing it all that much :)

Yes, there are some silly kids amongst them, but nothing that the builtin SL tools couldn't solve (mute, eject, or a little evil script :> .

Seems obvious to me...

I spotted a noob right away last night in Grey (or whatever it is south of Blue, Bluesouth, south Blue, that place, well anyway..). LePoseur Skidoo and I were hanging out trying to break things in his tower. A small white dot appeared on the map, vectoring in towards us. Soon <somegoofyname> landed and walked in. The make-up, short shorts, legs that would make CrowCatcher jealous, estrogine enriched purple lips, and see through bra (with nipple textures beneith) were, I believe, server provided flags denoting the new arrival as a noob.
Boso
p.s. I think LeP got a date, but I'm not certain.
