Some friends and I saw this movie last night. Some great effects, but otherwise kinda mediocre. Anyone else seen it, yet? I give it 2.5 stars out of 5. Worth the price of a matinee.

I agree... not a bad flick but nothing to get excited about.

Don't get your expectations too high or you will be disapointed. Keep em relatively low and it is entertaining enough.

I had a good time watching it. It was funny at times and the effects were cool. And Constantine is a bit of a badass too.

The only downer I got was when, after the film, the woman behind me said the movie sucked but yet she had laughed the loudest thru the entire film. She even let out some whinny, orgasmic huzzpah when Keanu's chest was bared.

Whatever. People will bitch about anything. I tripped her as she was on her way out. :D

Hehe, well that says it all, Lash. Here we have an action/suspense/thriller movie but it somehow managed to come off more as a campy comedy. Yes, there was plenty of inappropriate laughter at our screening, too.

I can't bring myself to see it.

I hoped for years they would make a Hellblazer movie, but I'm so disgusted by the casting that it just makes me cry.

Who better to play a middle aged, cynical, bitter, chain-smoking, hermetic-magic-weilding Englishman than Keanu Reeves? "Dude, I know magic." Was Stephen Segal busy? Pfft.

I hear that they are repurposing the cast of X2 for roles in the new Invisibles movie! But fo'real, leave well enough alone! However, I think we are safe in that Mel Gibson would probably turn down the role for Preacher Gone to Texas! :D

Did we see the same movie?

I absolutely loved Constantine. I think this is going to be the "The Crow" for this generation of Goth kids. Still, I wish they hadn't moved the story from England. Does Hollywood really think we couldn't get into it if it doesn't take place in the US?

i dunno much about the character other than from seeing him in Sandman comics but what's up with Keanu "Whoa" Reeves? is there anything he doesn't suck?

when i read the comics i actually thought if they ever made a movie about that guy it should be Sean Bean playing him. i love him to pieces and he's 1) english 2) blonde 3) masculine 4) middle aged bitter and cynical. not so much in Lord of the Rings (even tho i love him) but watch some of his Sharpes stuff and imagine him with magic powers. perfect.

but noooooooooooooo Hollywood knows better. fuckers. :P even Dennis Leary would be better than Keanu "Dumb As A Bag Of Really Dumb Hammers" Reeves.

A funny quote I remember seeing on the IMDB boards when the casting was first taking place... Someone said that "Keanu Reeves would ruin any movie he was cast in." Another poster titled her post, "Now that's not fair to Keanu.." and when I opened it, expecting to read how cute/funny/brilliant Keanu was, it read, "...he's perfectly capable of ruining movies he's not in, too."

I never read the comics. So I don't know how the story and characters really are. But if I do watch a movie where I've read the book or followed the comics, I will be upset if the movie didn't live up to the literature.

But then again, most movies based on comics/books never live up to the original. So if I had known about the comics before watching this, I'd be outraged at how much was butchered. It'd definitely make me less interested if I known those details upfront.

That said, I've learned to accept that studios cut up good literature and force feed it into a 90 minute flick. It would be nice to see them be loyal to the book once in a while. They keep insisting it's not possible, but I just think they are too cheap. And they are greedy so they go for the washed down, hype version to attract the masses than to appease the smaller audience that knows the real story.

the only movies i've seen that are pretty close to the book it's based on are the Harry Potter ones. i dunno if that's cause they're more kids movies or what. The Name Of The Rose was pretty dang close to the book (but it wasn't very good hehe) but that's about it. any other movies i've seen that are based on a book it's like they based it on the cliff notes then the director was like "what the hell does Charles Dickens know? bring in the roller skating chimps!"

awesome Keanu slamming quote there Jonquille. :D i love to hate him. me and my friends still watch Dracula and roll on the floor laughing at how stiff he is. and his Bill&Ted accent.

Sean Bean would have been an excellent choice; but my first pick was Ewan MacGregor. FWIW, when the character first appeared in Swamp Thing, he was physically modelled on Sting... but that was over twenty years ago.

And while we're on the subject, casting anyone other than Stephen Fry to play John Steed in The Avengers was a crime against humanity. (Just had to get that off my chest.)

Jan Michael Vincent? :p

I have to concur with the Keanu bashers.

I haven't yet seen any of the Matrix movies because I am still reeling from Point Break.

OH! They should have cast Patrick Swayze! The the gal behind Lash probably would have really got off then...

I hear ya. But the first one was good. Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving more than made up for the Keanu Talent Deficit.

But in the last two movies, the Wachowskis started taking themselves waaaay too seriously. Maybe worth watching with the sound off and the thumb hovering over the fast-forward button, since the fight scenes are still pretty cool.
