I deposited some Lindens w/ Hank Ramos in his bank. I have enough confidence in his plan to give this a shot, it is my hope that others will follow suit.

Sorry, should have been clearer! I thought everyone knew about this by now.
There is a Bank-In-A-Video-Game now, run by Hank Ramos. You can get mortgages if you need help buying land and certificates of deposit if you would like to invest. He's got a solid-looking business plan and this could really help new folks who need help buying land. It also gives a cost effect way to pay your tier without having to pay $US, at least temporarily. Check it out! _____________________

Hmmm
Fascinating! I'll probably contact Hank; I have no head for numbers and I would need someone to explain everything as simply as possible to me. _____________________

The good thing about a bank in SL is the fact that it avoids all those annoying and unnecessary real-world banking regulations. I'm sure Hank did not have to file with any federal, state, or local authorities. As long as LL can preserve this type of free market, only good things can come to SL and its citizens.

What I am talking about is the real world. Its clear to me that some people need to be reminded why regulations exist. In second life, things are a lot different from the real world so regulations are not as important. Mr. Kent, the main reason why Banks are regulated in the real world, is so that they will offer you a fair rate for the money you keep in the bank, and to protect your savings should the bank become insolvant. Regulations also keep the bank honest. Regulations are very good Mr. Kent. But For second Life, I don't see the need, for the Real World, however, I would not deal with an uninsured non-regulated bank if it was the last bank left in the real world. _____________________

An SL bank is a great idea. Is this backed and insured by the Lindens? If not perhaps the Lindens could step in and help Mr. Ramos out.

Mr. Kent, the main reason why Banks are regulated in the real world, is so that they will offer you a fair rate for the money you keep in the bank, and to protect your savings should the bank become insolvant. Regulations also keep the bank honest. That is socialist propaganda. The reason banks are regulated in the real world is so that the Federal Reserve can control the interest rates. The Fed Reserve is so anti-free market it is a crime. |
