can someone please tell me how to play with flying machines?

every time I try to fly to another sim I either get teleported home or freeze up and have to relog. there was a flashing message in the upper righthand corner but I crashed before I could read it. I see other people flying around so I wonder what I am doing wrong? one time I was sent through space and ended up in a sitting position and couldn't get up and so I had to turn off the game.

Many vehicles don't allow you to ride them unless you are the owner. Get some of your own and try them.

Since last Friday, almost every time I've teleported or crossed a sim border, I've had to relog.

I believe there are problems with flying or driving over sim borders. Maybe you could ask the Lindens if they can suggest anything. It's really annoying.

Oh, I wasn't saying you stole them. Sorry if it sounded that way.

well I just found out what the problem is. someone was nice enough to stop and help me

he said that I am flying over an area that has a bounce script on it and he told me to ask the forum how to avoid these places. are these scripts displayed on a map or anything?
and what are bounce scripts for?

Hi, peaceandlight!

You've just discovered one of the minor aggravations of the game...vehicle owners have a hard time enjoying their cool toys with 100% reliability.

Whenever you cross a sim border, you're actually going through a high-speed handoff from one server at Linden Lab to another. In the game, that generally shows as a quick bump of "turbulence" at the border. It's not a perfect process, and Bad Things Happen at high speed

If you approach the border at high speed, or at a very shallow angle, the transfer can hiccup, unseating your avatar. It's annoying as all getout, and it's one of the things we hope will go away soon.

Until it does, consider flying with your mini-map open in the corner of your screen; kind of a radar, so you can see where you are in the sim and adjust course.

- avoid crossing sims at the corners if at all possible. Corner crossings are the most treacherous.

- you may wnnt to slow slightly just before crossing a border, if your vehicle is responsive enough.

- try to cross a border head-on, rather than drifting across it. If you've ever ridden in a speedboat, you probably noticed the driver probably veered directly across the wake of other boats, rather than drifting into it, to keep from being swamped. Same general idea. (Although the Lindens may have been working on the angle-of-approach problem; I can't remember.)

- I never pay good money for a vehicle until I'm sure it's copy-enabled. No-transfer vehicles are perfectly understandable, given the amount of work that goes into them. But you should get a fresh copy of a vehicle every time you drag it out. If you lose it on a sim crossing, and can't recover it, hit the ground and rez a fresh copy. The old one will usually, but not always, fall off the grid at some point and get returned to you. If it does, be careful when you rez it; it may rez with the same velocity it had at the point of crash. I generally just delete the old ones.

Despite your best efforts, you're going to "crash" a vehicle from time to time. But it gets easier with practice!

Bounce scripts are for asshats to legally grief you with. Or, maybe it's not so legal. I'm not sure.

Unfortunatly there is no way to avoid "security" scripts that unsit you and eject you from a parcel or teleport you home on cross-over. There is no way to identify these parcels or have any warning - crossing them is like stepping on a mine. You will be removed and your vehicle will stay behind until the owner feels like returning it to you.

In most cases, the removal process will also involve crashing your client or causing you to lose connection with the grid.

At the moment the only thing you can do about this is to trace back the parcel, find out the owner, and sending a complaint IM or an abuse report about that person.

Appropriate punishment for the dildos who use these scripts would be permanent seizure of their land for resale by the Lindens.
