Ditto. I think all legal acknowledgement of marriage should be abolished and replaced with civil unions. People could still get married, but if they wanted LEGAL recognition of being husband and wife, they'd need a civil union.

This is already the case in France. The secular state ensures this. :)

Well heck, let's just abolish any sort of formally recognized pairing of individuals. Free love reigns! (Or, for Darko -- One Love Rules!) :p

<--- hopeless theoretical monogamist

I'm trying to stop bashing my head against the wall after my Senator got up and chose Bush's anti-gay stance as the most noteworthy thing to applaud at the State of the Union.

*mustering up some gumption* YAY for New York! Still some rational thinkers somewhere. :)

I agree, a partnership between two people has nothing to do with the church, though if they want to sanctify it, it's their choice. However, civil unions should be what is legally recognized.

We'll talk when the U.S. recognizes gay and transgendered marriages made outside the U.S. :p

We'll talk when this is really true throughout the whole of Europe. We'll talk when the whole of Europe protects the rights of people of all races and religions.

I already said, they do it in France. When you get married, you have your civil union at the registry office, then there's traditionally a rush to the church to get married in the religious part of the ceremony. It's quite funny, they sometimes end up running to get there on time :D

I know. Same in Germany, last I heard (which was maybe a decade ago, so it may have changed since then).

Wow, that's good to hear. I'm so fed up with the biggotry in the White House. Score one for humanity.

This is really good news - I thought it was especially poignant that one of the people applying for marriage had parents that were an interracial couple that had to move to California in the 1960s to get married because Texas would not allow interracial marriage. I concur with the person who said score one for humanity. I love the way that "activist judge" is used as a slur when someone is brave enough to recognize the stupidity of all of this and stand up for what is right - not just what is "the law".

Even if it is eventually overturned, it is an important victory, not just for gay people, but for all people who believe in not letting fear, ignorance, and intolerance rule our lives.

Am I the only guy who never wanted to bang a lesbian(or find any sexual gratification out of lesbians?)

Still, good for them! It's amazing how such a simple subject with an obvious need for tolerence is so resisted by ignorant jackasses.

Hey, lesbians are cute. :D

One thing I've never understood is the argument that permitting gay marriage will somehow morph into permitting polygamy/polyandry/polyamory. As if polyamory was a bad thing or something! :D
