I ran into someone today who claimed their friend was temp-banned for "bumping into someone who was in a bad mood," and I have met SLers self-involved enough that I could see them reporting any little thing that bothers them.
The same person also said that people gang up on others to abuse report them for revenge or a power trip, though he didn't have an example for this claim.
Myself, I've never had any interaction with this system aside from closing the little window when someone bumps me in a crowd, so I don't know how strenous Lindens are about investigating reports, or whether people are gaming the system to throw their weight around.
What experiences have you had, positive or negative, with Abuse Report? If there are shenannigans, it seems important to bring them to light.

There is a feeling among some that we are all players of second life, and abuse reports are based on what is in the report. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having built all of second life, LL have access to every log and computer in second life, and they know what all the source code does. They can work out definitively exactly what *did* happen at a certain time. So if I and 20 friends all neg rate someone for something they didn't do, it won't wash. You can only sucessfully group neg rate someone if they have done something. Linden Labs do check. Hope that eases your fears  |

Would the server cache be that extensive? Does LL have access to my cache? I'm sure there would be some evidence in many cases (surely chat histories, and the abuse log itself if there were physical violence), but can LL seriously reconstruct the event? Have you seen the system at work at all?

the trees have eyes, and ears. While i don't think LL monitors and records every key press in SL, i also don't have any delusions about whether they *could* or not

my bf was checking out a dance cage and some girl blackmailed him into giving her the money or she was gonna report him. he didn't and she did. Even though she had no right to do so and he did no harm in first place. I do think the abuse report is going to far.

well 'abusive' abuse reports (aka filing them as a blackmail/extortion/gang up on someone etc tactic) are considered abuse themselves, and i wouldn't be suprised to see more people who file them illigitimately to begin to get more suspensions etc themselves
