Woo hoo! You 52% better love this stuff. Cuts in military, education, local law enforcement, and transportation infrastructure. On top of all that, the budget doesn't include the costs for the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or the trillions of dollars to "make Social Security solvent". This is the part where I eat popcorn and laugh. Record spending and the cutting of essential servics. Three cheers for fiscal conservatism. From: someone It would slice law enforcement grants to states from $2.8 billion to $1.5 billion. And it would cut 48 education programs totaling $4.3 billion, including $2.2 billion for high school programs, mostly state grants for vocational education.
The budget would cut $440 million in Safe and Drug-Free School grants, $500 million in education technology state grants, $225 million for the Even Start literacy program, $280 million for Upward Bound programs for inner-city youths and a $150 million talent research program, according to the documents. Who needs local law enforcement anyway? The homeland is safe. Isn't it? Now where are those children? I swear they were right behind me.

Actually, I just read about the latest budget push by Bushh. It would actually beef up some military spending, and the totally ineffective Homeland Security program, while cutting health care benefits from the elderly, handicapped and veterans. It would also cut spending on education and the environment (what a suprise). Oh, also it would greatly reduce subsidies for farmers.
Gee...almost sounds identical to how a facist goverment would spend money. Beef up your army, spend more money on strongarming citezens, and screw taking care of those less fortunate than yourselves, or educating people to think for themselves, or worrying about the earth, since everyone involved will be long-dead before the unalterable effects are felt.

I was listening to Marketplace on my local NPR station, the other day. The commentator mentioned something to the effect that the aggregate of all domestic spending in the US is but "one slice in the overall budget pie." Depending on the size of the pizza, that would be 1/8 - 1/16th of the total budget. Where does the rest go? A) Defense spending, and B) entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid).
