Should there be Virtual Laws and Virtual Rights for Avitars?

Since this is a topic in correlation to Taco's Thread I present the question:

Should there be Virtual Laws to protect your rights as an Avitar? IF so how would it be governed and by whom? Should the Game Companies be representing you as an Avitar based on guidelines? Scenario: Mary Joe Doe has her Avitar picture taken without her consent.
Plantiff Avitar and Defendant Avitar, Judgement passed agaisn't Defendant Avitar and account banned. Defendant argues that the Avitar is his and he represents his own actions as the Avitar. He also argues that he created the Avitar and he owns it. Defendant Avitar wants legal council.

This is what we have a TOS and CS for.

There ARE virtual laws, laws in the form of the TOS. Virtual Judges are essentially the Lindens themselves.
Unless of course, you're arguing for the sake of player-run conflict resolution, which, in my opinion, is a dead and beaten horse.

I agree, these are already in place Blake.

For any *further* laws, you are talking about group dynamics (whatever the structure) that can place *further* rules/laws/rights on their organization. They are still bound by the ultimate Laws and Rights of the TOS and CS though.

Virtual Money is traded and turned to real money, creations and items are traded, my question is should one be able to sell their Avitar as well?

That is a MUCH different question than what you asked Blake. You should start a new thread for that question. :)

Oh, and it is Avatar not Avitar (I'm a horrid speller too so no worries! :))

Well it also pertains to Rights.

So do a lot of things. The trick is to not be so broad in your questions. Narrow them down and you will find you get much better answers. :)

I agree, the tos is the only real "law" in sl. But I do think the TOS should include the right for privacy. ie No negative article should be published containing the name of an sl resident.

there is nothing to stop residents of sl from building political organizations. I don't mean the red party, or conservative. I mean like an organization that focuses on bring quality product to the populous for free. through donation, and money razing. That or a group that give out products to it's members, and only charges a small monthly fee. Or a group scripter who use polling to find out what ll functions are the most wanted, and passes that on to ll.

Blake, you're using the forums to debate and discuss interesting ideas .. are you out of your mind!?!?!?! (*sarcasm*)

Please, for the love of god, ignore the fools on these forums who get all insecure everytime someone becomes inquisitive and curious.

As for the topic at hand:

Virtual avatar rights are an interesting concept, especially because the concept of physical violence and physical intimidation no longer exist.

My #1 most important avatar right is the ability for any adult avatar is the right to persue any activity at *all* as long as their activities are constrained in impact to the private sphere of like minded adult avatars.

Thus bomb making classes would be out of the question, or corporate boardroom discussions, etc as they could impact outside the private sphere.
