I discovered Ruby's had an open wireless network while I was eating there last week. Was able to get in world for 10 minutes and buy a neighboring 512m2 lot before my battery died....

...what, addicted? Never!

;)

Second Life is a very addictive toy. I prefer Perl, though, because that's addictive, free, and looks the resume. Call me when you can say the same about this wind-up monkey.

Experience/qualifications: Successfully designed and implemented a public space and surrounding areas using virtual development software. Successfully designed innovative apartment dwellings which maximize space and profit. Successfully designed a virtual traffic system in a software simulation.

Software which virtually simulates traffic systems is currently used in a statistical manner, utilizing many simulation runs and much educated analysis to determine trends and forecasts about how things should turn out if all the conditions are met. It is a simulation, not real life, and it takes a lot of experience and study to be able to use professional-grade software of this nature effectively.

There are many, many different real life considerations that must be taken into account when it comes to envisioning, developing and managing apartments, businesses or any other sort of real life real estate proposition (water, sewer, electricity, local design codes, traffic flow/mitigation, public transit options, zoning, proximity to schools, soil type, flood plain location, and on, and on, and on).

Second Life is a fun toy in its current incarnation. Until you have to start worrying about plumbing your SL apartments and paying taxes on them, LF, I'd suggest you leave the fact that you build stuff in a virtual world off your resume. ;)

But there was an article in Wired a few weeks ago about an urban planning professor teaching part of the class in SL, because it helped the students visualize planning concepts and whatnot... so it's not 100% off base.

So nyah.

I won't miss SL at all after tonight. Nope, not at all for the next 9 days that I have no computer access. Nope, not at all.

Haha, LF, I knew you'd bring this up. I'd love to know exactly how the prof in that course is using SL. If it's part of an academic course, it legitimizes the experience, natch. If you're just dinking around on your own... well, it's a bit different.

I may have to go looking for a syllabus from one of the courses being taught that is utilizing SL. I'm curious to see just how large of a role SL gameplay has in the total coursework.

Hmm...SL and its forums are like a very, very good (or bad...depends on perception) drug. I connected to the free trial...and 5 minutes later decided "Screw the trial period...make me premium NOW"...Modeling, textures, Interactivity, Community....I'll never get anything done outside of SL now.

Welcome to our world Xtopherxaos! I've forgotten what that big box in our living room is for. It displays a continuous loop of pictures with sound. Seems like I remember sitting in front of it a lot before I found SL.

Addiction is when....

You almost burst into tears cos your internet WONT DAMN WORK
You find yourself using your flexitime not for holiday but to get home to get on SL
You spend your ENTIRE week off work soley on SL
You re-arrange your nights out incase you miss someone u wanna see on SL
You saying L.M.A.O or L.O.L instead of acutally laughing in conversation
You tell people you live in your house in Maui, when they ask where u live
You wish your wardrobe was kept in little labelled folders for ease
You spend ALL day surfing the forums looking for your friends ;)

Oh my... what can i say... SL is my life... *sigh*.. note to self... get out more.. go to The Edge, or Elite or something ;)

It's almost 7 AM.

I should be waking up about now.

Instead, I'm going to sleep.

How messed-up is that? ;)
