This year's American Idol has some great contestants. I thought I would start this thread by examining some of the strengths and weaknesses of these singers. Yay, I get to be Simon for a few minutes.
Anthony Fedorov
Anthony came into this competition having overcome traumatic experiences physically. He had been the recipient of a tracheodomy and was told he may never speak again, let alone sing. I admire his strength and enjoy his singing. He has been compared to Clay Aiken in his appearance and demeanor and if thats any indication, he probably will not win the idol, but he can look forward to a successful career. He needs a lot of work on his stage presence and appearance.
Carrie Underwood
I agree with Simon on Carrie. She has the finest voice of all the performers, but that does not mean she is a shoe-in for the top spot. She is very pretty, certainly photogenic and would outsell any of the other performers, should she win. That said, her naivity is quite apparent, her movement is stiff and her delivery is nervous. She needs more confidence in herself. I would be thrilled if she won, yet should she not, she will be ulimately signed by a major label and/or do many appearances. It wont be long before you see her videos on CMT.
Bo Bice
Bo is an exceedingly talented man. while he he deeply rooted in rock and roll, he has demonstrated some potential with his deep rich tones. Can he win the idol?, I don't think so. His look, his movement and his genre are not compatable with the title. He can relax in knowing his career will not end after the competition however.
Scott Savol
Scott is the underdog here. He has no look, his movement and charisma are non-existant, but when he begins to sing, he gives me goose bumps. Much like Ruben Studdard, who went all the way to the top. Simply put he has the most beautiful voice of the men singers, a natural talent. Idol no, but I would buy his solo CD and would pay to see him.
Nikko Smith
Also an underdog, but unlike Scott, Nikko has some flair. His voice is nice, but not outstanding. I doubt Nikko will make it past the top 8 and he will have a tough time competing in the solo game.
Vonzell Solomon
She has demostrated her obvious talent and growth in this contest with her head held high. A class act indeed, but unfortunately may fall the same way as some of her predecesors, like Latoya London, Trenice and Tamyra Gray. Other than Tamyra, her solo career might prove challenging.
Anwar Robinson
This guy can win this. His energy is contagious, his movement and stylings are certainly embodied in his performances. His voice, pitch and range are good, but not outstanding. I must say, that overall he has excellent potential to win idol status.
Constantine Maroulis
Not a winner, not even close. In fact, I would expect him to be voted off this week. He is too "dyed in the wool" rock n roll and is not nearly as talented as Bo Bice. While some fans may see him as cute, he lacks range and control in his presentation. His career is limited to cover band work in bars and high school gigs.
Nadia Turner
I really like Nadia. Wonderful smile, exuberent energy, great movement and original styling. Her voice and range are not outstanding and her act borders on being over-the-top. She has idol potential, but only if she demonstrates diversity across the genres and backs away from cabaret style performances.
Mikalah Gordon
Mikalah, Mikalah, Mikalah. *sigh* The youngest contestant in the competition. At first, I found her to be very irritating, having reminded me of the "Nanny" and her incessant ramblings. My opinion of her changed markedly when she sang a Billie Holiday tune a few weeks ago. A memorable performance indeed. Likewise, she sang a beautiful rendition of Barabara Striesand last week. Sadly, last nights performance lacked the range and control of the other songs. If she could harness her ego into talent, this girl could go far, but she has little hope in winning this contest. Unless she has a few tricks up her sleeve, she wont last long.
Jessica Sierra
Very strong performances thus far. Purely nice, rich and controlled voice, supported by excellent pitch and decent range. Just a bit too "twangy" for my taste perhaps. On the down side, she completely lacks movement and flow. Her stance is square and she appears terrified on stage. If she is to go far, she needs to lighten up, shake it a bit, mingle with the crowd and infect everyone with her talent. She has great potential as a recording artist though not necessarily as the American Idol.
Overall, My favorite is Carrie Underwood, but I don't rule out Nadia Turner or Anwar Robinson.
Your thoughts?

Anwar Robinson all the way....he shouldn't even be in the competition, he should already have a recording contract.

He will be gone in short order....he will do well on the cruise line circuit....very bland From: someone Carrie Underwood

She will be in the last two standing From: someone Bo Bice

He will be the other in the last two standing...he knows how to pick the the right songs and has the best stage presence. From: someone Scott Savol

Great voice but he'll be gone in 2 weeks From: someone Nikko Smith

he's out of pitch everytime he sings From: someone Vonzell Solomon

Shes good but not as good as some of the others...gone in 4 weeks From: someone Anwar Robinson
This guy can win this. His energy is contagious, his movement and stylings are certainly embodied in his performances. His voice, pitch and range are good, but not outstanding. I must say, that overall he has excellent potential to win idol status.
After this weeks performance he'll be lucky if he doesnt get voted off tonight....bad song for him and he was off pitch for the first 3rd of it From: someone Constantine Maroulis

top four potential but forgetable From: someone Overall, My favorite is Carrie Underwood, but I don't rule out Nadia Turner or Anwar Robinson.

I think Carrie, Bo, and possibly Nadia in the top 3....really depends on who screws up or picks a bad song.....if there is a donny osmond or barry manilow night Bo is dead meat

From: Talen Morgan ....if there is a donny osmond or barry manilow night Bo is dead meat So true, the producers have alot of power over the competition and I surely hope they don't spring one of those nights on them. Bo is a great singer and it would be sad to see him get booted too early because of a bubble gum song. Bo is capable of singing across genres, he could do well with Motown, country, movie tunes. I would like to see him in there a while. This year, they have not had guest judges. I wonder if they plan on it for the final 10? In year 1, I think Kelly was a good choice, although I thought Tamyra Gray should have been in the final instead Justin. Then in year 2, although Ruben is a great guy and an excellent singer, Clay should have won. Losing in the final was probably the best thing for Clay however, because he outsells Ruben by 2 to 1 and has it "made in the shade" as a solo performer. Fantasia was a good choice for Idol in year 3. I think she is a good role model and a singer with unique and self-assured identity. I thought Latoya should have been in the final instead of Diana. I guess it comes down to the voting public though. These kids are really under the gun now and if this weeks performance was any indication, it should be really entertaining.

From: Lecktor Hannibal I have seen a couple of guest judges. My hero Gene Simmons was on. LOL Gene was great! Funny as hell. That was in auditions though, I still don't know if there will be guest judges. Wasn't Lionel Ritchie supposed to be a standing guest judge every year? Simon didn't have very good things to say about him either

I Never watched the first 2 seasons but did watch most of last years....what strikes me this year is that the majority of singers are quite good and have a style all their own instead of everyone singing the same crap every week.
I think with Bo and Constantine in there they might lean towrds more r&b - rock type themes...the last two themes were well suited to everyone ......I hope they keep with the broader spectrum themes gives them much more to work with.
