Some may find this odd but I just watched Farenheit 911 for the first time.

I was a bit underwhelmed. Some of it was interesting but I guess I expected more from the hype.

This often happens when dogmatists of any stripe lambast a film or book without having seen it: those who are critical are telling a third-hand "fish story" and thus the criticism can grow without bound.

I remember seeing Scorcese's The Last Temptation of Christ which I found to be downright pious. Those that didn't bother to see it before making a public boycott didn't give themselves the opportunity to see what they were up in arms over. Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five is perpetually being removed from libraries and even burned because one WWII soldier in the the middle of battle shouts to another "keep your head down you stupid motherfucker". When one word is sufficient to get a 20th century masterpiece removed from 12th-grade curriculum (yes, you can fight in a war but you can't read what soldiers might say in a war) things get a little silly.

Also in this age of "blipverts" that which was shocking in June has been digested by October.

I checked it out this weekend too.

I found it ridiculous and boring. I turned it off half way through.

Not only that but the cinematography was amateurish.

My opinion of Michael Moore plummeted. Now I see him for the loser he really is. He is just another Jerry Springer.

All the hype about the documentary was obviously all about politics and not about film-making.

He should enjoy his moment of fame and use the money to get a shower, a haircut, shave, lose some weight, and a brain; not necessarily in that order.

So what is next for him? "Elvis and the Queen of England: The Plot to take over México?"

Hmmm 2 for 2 ! I haven't seen it for obvious Rep. reasons and I care not to fleece the baggy pockets of this asshat. Very interesting reviews from you two though and encouraging. I'm waiting on Cristiano's comments.
Peace

If F911 didn't do it alone, then checkout The Corporation and then watch a Canadian documentary called Manufacturing Consent: Chomsky and the Media.

If you don't watch Manufacturing Consent you are complicit in the crimes against the East Timorese and you will remain indoctrinated by the media!! RABLE! RABLE!

After seeing Manufacturing Consent, you might look at F911 and call it an invention to distract from what happened to Arastide after he was democratically elected. I havn't read Chomsky's book that goes by the same title, the documentary is neat because you see him out in a crowd of students teaching, it reminded me of David Blane and his street magic. Both are avaible on suprnova.org if you search.

I saw it in the theater, and I absolutely loved it. It was totally moving, for me. I watched it last night on DVD, and, I didn't like it. It felt really, really different to watch it on my home TV, alone.

Tito,

<<He should enjoy his moment of fame and use the money to get a shower, a haircut, shave, lose some weight, and a brain; not necessarily in that order>>

Great bit of film criticism.

I think the author of Hamlet ought to do something about that terrible beard and should at least make the effort to improve his handwriting.
