The topic about this has popped up several times in the forums. Why, you can find it at /120/65/7370/1.html
Also, it took 606 tries. If I remember correctly, only one little part was slightly fixed. _____________________

The only "trick" they used is that they actually did it in two parts, and they used some skillful video editing to merge the end of the first part with the beginning of the second part seamlessly. But still, that's a crazy ad.

So I get a bad view from work (need to watch this from home) but how do they get the tires to roll up hill and then stay up hill? I know Leonardo or Capernicus had some way to do that with angles but Im not seeing it in this video.

AdAge says that they are not running it in the US because it will cost too much to run an ad that most people won't "get". What a shame, considering the crap that we DO get to see...

What exactly wouldn't people in the US "get"? _____________________

Ach, AdAge loves to talk down to Americans. If it's not running here it is because either it didnt' test well, or it's too long and high concept car ads don't generate sales in the US. Feature-driven ads generate brand purchase intent, financing ads generate dealer choice purchase intent. It's hard to say that makes Americans less sophisticated... we want to see the nuts and bolts of what we're buying, and we want to know how much it's going to cost, instead of being won over by ads that are more abstract. It's a car, for gosh sakes!
Now, on the other hand, if they were selling the commercial, I'd buy it over any other commercial I've seen recently! Brilliant creative. Bet they get lots of awards for it. Bhodi, who was Larry Tate at an ad agency in a former life |

I have to point out, when I see an ad for a PC, it talks about processor speed, memory, storage, etc. When I see an ad for a Mac, it talks about what colors you can get it in. <Throw pie> <here> |

I dunno Bhodi. Most of the car ads I see these days have absolutely no nuts and bolts information in them. They're all "lifestyle" ads. I don't know anything about Lexus cars, except that if I buy one I'll listen to jazz, have a gorgeous wife, and drive up and down the California coast a lot. ![]() _____________________

The fact that the hardware is a higher performance grade then the large majority of PCs is a side benefit. And with Panther, You can also run it as a general purpose unix system as well. Yes, the clock speeds are slower. That stopped being a concern a year or two ago for the average user. You will always have the speed freak, who turns to exotic technoloies like running a Celeron 1.0 at 2.5 ghz in a tank of liquid nitrogen just for bragging rights. I can go on, but I think the point has been taken. |

No matter how good Apple's hardware gets I will never buy. I don't trust the company. They already screwed me once.

To be honest, I'm not really a hardcore Mac hater. They are great for certain things - graphics and music manipulation - and for people who do these functions and are not generally technophiles. The ads are designed to appeal to this customer base. Also, I know that that their lower clock speeds do not mean lower performance, since they use RISC technology. My main problem with Apple products is that they lock you into buying Apple products - once none, and now few, third party add-ons.
