I am so happy about the event calender changes

An event is not something that happens 35 times a week on your plot. Weddings and birthdays shouldn't be sandwiched between Tringo and naked AV contests. Maybe the Lindens need to add an activities calender to appease the whiners.

I AGREE. Paople are complaining everywhere on the forums about not being able to do 3+ events per av. Why? Maybe its a traffic fight.Has anyone else noticed that the people complaing HAVE MASSIVILY HIGH DWELL. 2 of the three complainers ive seen so far own land with at ,east 8k+ Traffic

I got high dwell without doing Tringo. I don't do Sexy AV contests - and I don't do any form of sleeze.

I got my high dwell by working my ass off. I don't have a ton of money to throw in a money machine. I don't have a hundred paid hosts.

My land is owned by me alone. I'm not money-motivated. I never turned a profit - in fact, I had to constantly spend my own RL$ to keep my place afloat.

Any hosts I have volunteer their time for free - because they believe in the idea of having a place that's genuinely friendly, and helpful to new folks.

While I know your comments weren't directed towards me directly, I find them insulting - considering how much work I put into all this.

I work 50+ hours a week in my RL job, and come home to put in another 30+ in SL.

Whatever - anyone who acheives some degree of success in this game is stigmatized by the community. Go figure.

Hopefully it will make the event planners think more about what kind of events they want to have now and make them more worthwhile. I have seen the same 'events' over and over and over listed since I started in Dec. I know many people who don't consider most of what is listed in events as an actual event.

I know the people here can come up with something better...so lets see what you can do with the new guidelines in place. Take the challenge that has been given to you and make it work.

...Or they can just make all the multiple 'norm' events into one now... Tringo slingo bingo jello wrestling with wings and bling red thong Event at 9:00 joy...

Is my game show "Payment Podium" a problem?

How about my Newbie Welcome Party?

Or my There/TSO Party?

Or the UK/Euro Meet & Greet?

Maybe the Freebie Exchange Gathering? Gotta have a problem with that..

The Obscure 80's dance... that was just too....'obscure'.

If I was into this for the money (which I'm not) - I would only post the most dwell-producing, high traffic events possible. If the bigger clubs are smart - that's what they'll do to survive.

Instead of posting something because its fun.

Be careful what you wish for folks...

I'd like some cheese with my whine damnit!

Pros and Cons to Everything

Travis, THE SHELTER is a terrific haven for newbies. You have a group of truly helpful pals there just waiting to welcome newbies to Second Life. Your events are tasteful and certainly lots of fun. There is never a shortage of FREE STUFF for newcomers. I personally would hate to see THE SHELTER only allowed one Event per day. Alas Travis, there are always some who will abuse the system and it seems you are caught in a Catch 22 here. :(

Travis, is 21 events a week really cheating you out of your fun time?

I find it absolutely appalling that the Lindens can fete that guy who invented the Tringo game, flog him on their website, flog him into the RL news media, dine out on him endlessly, but these net nannies reach out their long boney spinster fingers and put a lock on how many times ordinary people can play Tringo and have fun and make money.

It's because as Khamon Fate says, they view SL as a resume-builder, but not a place with human life that is free.

There really should be no limit to the number of times people schedule Tringo on their lot, and I say this as a person who never played Tringo and never will!

I think anyone who can muster the time, talent, and treasure to run an event in this difficult game should get as much freedom and leeway and help to do that, and have the net nanny state out of his ass, pronto.

LL should get out of the way of the commerce in this game, and stop inciting and abetting the anti-commerce crowd in this game.

The prudishness implied in limiting events that they find "unseemly" or "uncultured" or "in mass taste" really has no place coming from a GAME AND ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY duh. Like, are they saying "We get to have a game and entertainment company...but you don't" That *is* what they are saying, By God! By telling you how many times you can have an event, and with whom, and where they are exercising unreasonable control over content and SL lives. It's wrong.

The ingame events calendar is just a tool, and they need to get out of its hair. If someone is offended from among the scripterati and other FIC types who hate mass culture that there are too many sexay av contests, well, let them make their own schedules in game and publicize them on their own spam lists.

I haven't used the new event calendar, but I'm guessing they did this to keep themselves from having to babysit the event calendar. One day I saw two events on the same day that were blatantly in contradiction to the event posting rules. One was a land sale, and the other was just an ad for wedding services.

I agree that people hosting actual games should be able to do so as many times a day as they like. They will now have to have friends host if they want more than three events a day. That's not too bad. Also, game hosts may want to consider posting longer events, though I realize people tend to look at the time slot that is approaching not the time slot three hours previously.

Perhaps we should ask for changes to the Event Calendar that make sense.

Oh, and I think that people upset with the changes should protest by not holding events. That'll show em.

umm.. no.

The current limit is 3 events per parcel per day. And the bigger complaint isn't the limet but the fact that you must own the parcel, or be a member of a group that the land is deeded to, to post the event.

So no matter how many friends you have you can't host more than 3 events on your parcel (meaning those with islands may need to break there island in portions, which will of course mean there traffic/dwell will be split.. this is making those that have been pushing the system to be in the top 10 annoyed)

The problem with posting is the biggest issue, I do believe that I should be able to specify people who can host events on my land, without risking my land from being stolen because it is owned by a group (admittedly this is partly to do with issues with groups).

besides that I think this rule is a move in the right direction, but as mentioned they need a better system for displaying and searching events.

We happen to give backrubs and foot massages at the Phoenix Hotsprings Spa and Massage! and if you want a mud rub, (nice, warm mud and smooth animation in nakedavie mud suits) you get the scantily clad damsel too! :-)

As for events changes, it is hampering. Say I have a nice person who wants to run an event at the spa: I now have to post the event for him or her. As long as I only have to post and don't have to run the event, great. Otherwise, bummer. Because we only run 3-4 events a week, this won't affect us too much. What affected us far far more was the inability to be able to pay anyone to host events. Hosting an event is daunting for most folks, therefore something worthy of payment. Unfortunately, due to the cutting of events sponsorship, there is no way to do this other than club owners paying out of pocket.

But hey! if you get too stressed over the hard work of posting and running and paying out of pocket to entertain LL's customers, we'd be happy to work out some of that tension for you at any of our state-of-the-art massage stations at the spa! :-D

Sorry, guys - I had a rough day at work, and this stuff thew me into meltdown mode. I think I drove Lee & Michael to drink on the phone today.

I should learn to take my own advice - nothing is ever *that* bad, and the sun will still rise & set tommorow like it always does.

I still strongly believe these weren't the *right* changes, but we'll all deal nonetheless - just like we've dealt with other curveballs that have come our way. Just gotta get creative with it :)

You actually called them? I didn't realize you were that upset. I wouldn't have laughed as much if I thought you were that emotionally invested in it.
