I thought I'd sumerize some questions that were asked in different fashions at tonights Town Hall, so people can either build questions off of these for tomorrows, or avoid re-asking them. :P

Side note: anyone have a chat log of the town hall?

These are not official Q and A's mearly my interpritation of them, see the chat log for details (whenever its posted).

Questions:

Q: Does the new financing mean <feature> will get done faster?

A: Short answer, no. Long answer, maybe, since new financing can mean new employee's and/or new hardware, some things could be implemented faster or better than before, but not for some time.

Q: Is SL merging with eBay?

A: Short answer, no. However this could open up plans in the future for some sort of agreement of some kind, but Philip said basicly if its not needed they won't do it.

Q: Is SL going to have <item> for sale on eBay?

A: Short answer, no. Long answer, things already have been offered for sale on ebay, I believe I saw L$ at one point being offered, but due to things like GOM, IGE, and user created auctions, theres little reason for this to happen.

Q: Is SL's development plan changing due to the new financing?

A: Philip pretty much said not really, the financers are putting money into SL because they like the current development and want to see it continue in the same way. I however say, maybe, I believe LL is smart enough to use this wisely, but that doesn't mean some things may change (better or worse). However the sky is not falling.

Q: Does this give SL new advertisement opportunities?

A: Probably, but its not going to change much other than new users. LL is always looking for new ways to advertise SL. I personaly am not worried/care about this other than if SL can handle large influxes of users (which it most likely could).

Q: New sims?

A: Philip mentioned new sims, or some new something, some surprise tomorrow, as a little gift to themselves for this deal, he then later said that more void and sandbox sims would be online (wether this is what he meant or not, not sure, and he didn't give any details). He did however say that its not going to be a land rush and from the way he was talking it didn't sound like Auctions either. Most likely more void and sandbox sims (Yay! :D).

Q: 1.5.6, when?

A: Supposedly within the next week or by the weekend (I forget which) 1.5.6 will be updated, then next week or two weeks from now they expect to have it released. Bug fixes etc. will be in the update.

Q: Lag, vehicle issues?

A: Philip basicly said they're working on vehicle controls and how they handle, fixing land vehicles etc. nothing really said on lag.

Q: <new feature>

A: Most of the Town Hall was about the financing and very few questions about new features were askedbyHaney/answered. I know many users actualy *did* ask about new features, however it seems the topic of this Town Hall was kept mostly on the new financing announcement.

Thats about all I can think of right now, add some or whatever if you want. :)

Thank you!

I also just added it to the history wiki here:

Edited out some of the banter.

SL and eBay are not involved with each other in any way that I can see.

This is the FOUNDER of eBay, not eBay itself, doing the investment. All those eBay themed questions are HIGHLY misleading.

The end of the town hall had me pretty excited. Usually I could care less about what the mucky mucks "plan" to do. They always want the best for the users, users love the attention.. But in terms of what actually happens, always a sad let down (damn thing called time). Regardless of my pessimistic attitude about promises from above, the plans for gaming domination got me hyped. I look forward to the day when SL is THE gaming platform that runs as fast as any other game and is fully dynamic and real time. It will frickin own. I welcome the millions of gamers young and old, fat and skinny, east and west, xenophobes and extroverts. One thing I was shocked and dismayed was that all scripters were not being given new PC's.
