... the roads in SL are mostly all over no-rez zones? Who's brilliant idea was that? Or is it that I'm missing out on something?

add them up and we have

2(The difference between me and you) = 0

The difference between me and you = 0/2

The difference between me and you = 0

I never thought we were so similar

The roads are no-rez so that people don't clutter them with crap. This is why the rezzing areas exist. Most sims have a spot adjacent to the roadside at which you can rez your vehicles.

I agree with Marker. I can't even rez Arthur, my dog, to take him for a walk. Feel the same way about rivers and water generally in SL. What's the point of having all this when you can't rez a boat anywhere near it.

As for cluttering it all up, surely it can be set to return items after a reasonable period of time?

I've always thought making the roadways and waterways no build was a bit silly. All it would take would be to have build on and auto-return set to about 5 or 10 minutes...plenty of time to rez a vehicle and be on your way. I'm guessing it's a lost cause now though....so much Linden land, it would take a long time to fix the land permissions on all of it. Probably more time than it's worth to LL.

A problem here, is the ever-present threat of SIM CROSSINGS. If you get tossed out after a sim crossing and your vehicle vanishes -- you often will find that you can't rez a new vehicle at that spot. You'll either have to backtrack or skip ahead manually, which is very frustrating.

All of which brings me to the original question! What are all those streets doing if you can't use them? They look so elaborate, yet I just can't run up to one and rez my vehicle.

I tried the rezzing at teleports. But then, usually after crossing a sim border, my vehicle goes useless. So I derezz and... er.. can't rez anymore... so I've gotta walk.. or rez outside of the streat and edit-move into the road again. Just to find myself having to do that again.. and again.. and again.

No sense found whatsoever.

The only things I occasionally use them for is roller skating and cycling, neither requiring me to rez anything on the road. I don't understand why this can't be changed. If you can't rez anything, seems to me to be a complete waste of space.

I'd love auto-return, but after 1 minute. Enough time to hop in your car, but not enough for someone to block the road.

I find all second life vehicles so laggy as to be uncontrollable and unusable. Doesn't really matter where you res it. Maybee its just my high Australian ping.
