Beta members, do you have any snapshots of the attractions that once existed back in the old days? I'm trying to collect images for a historical exhibit being built in the basement of the Governor's Mansion (in Clementina). Some of the attractions listed on the old maps that are no longer around:
Welcome Area (Ritch) Amphitheater (Clara) Avatar Central (Natoma) Boardwalk (Varney) Disco (DaBoom) Casino (Zoe)
Any photos at all would be greatly appreciated. Drop them on my profile in-world, or post them here if you'd prefer. Thanks!

Oh, this sounds great, Jake -- I'd be thrilled to see so many of these. I have seen a few but hmmm I wonder if a site like Bel Muse's http://www.2ndlook.org could have a comprehensive gallery, and if these could be archived on the Historical Wiki. I feel what would also come in handy for SL is a "Save Photo Album To Disk" mode that could batch export photos you've taken before, all to a definable folder. This would save the laborious "Save Texture" repetition and let you keep your treasured memories on your hard drive.

I have a few pics of the disco... I sent you just about every pic I had, a while ago, so you probably have them. They should be labeled. There should be some pics of the amphitheater there, and also the old Stage 4... the one that was just 4 crappy prims lol.

I can't view these images. All I get is the "no remote linking" image over and over again. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for sharing those, Huns. Jake, my recommendation is to try a different browser perhaps? Or copy and paste the link into the Address bar and then navigate to it. The direct links are: http://gallery.kadath.org/albums/slavatars/Av_contest_001.sized.jpghttp://gallery.kadath.org/albums/slavatars/Av_contest_003.sized.jpg^ I dunno if those would work but it's worth a shot. Cheers!

I've tried it in both Opera and IE, going to kadath.org and then navigating to the gallery; all I get is the "no remote linking" image. Could it be a firewall issue? (I'm running Norton Internet Security.)

I have a pic of the original plans for Darkwood when Ama and I started it. It's a pic of a 400+ prim model! (all linked! )

You used to be able to link that much stuff? Or was it a bug?

I have a few in-world snapshots. They are small because I had not discovered the tilde snapshot function.
The first shot is the old Welcome Area, complete with the first ghost I witnessed. This ghost was particularly spooky because it would drift from the Welcome Area in a straight line, out to sea.
The second shot is from an early test of Candie Apple's old bingo system. This was before she got the Boardwalk in Varney, I think.
The third shot is a pre cherub Devlin Gallant.
To be continued...
Edited to get the picture sequence right

I think a lot of the photos I had disappeared during the data crash, you know I'm sure, if you ask one of the liasons I'm sure they have photos, or even replicas of the items in question, perhaps if they were open-source, it would bring back the old feel.

The next series starts with a later Welcome Area shot. Its obiviously a pre-1.1 shot, due to the crappy ground textures and the world map in the background.
The second shot is of an unfortunate accident involving me and the billboard that used to stand behind my deck in Clara. The billboards generated alot of negative forum action, but they eventually disappeared. I didn't mind having one next door. They were actually well detailed, and quite realistic.
The third shot was taken on the old Varney Boardwalk. Yes, that bench is just like the ones in the Welcome Area today. The flying saucer hovering over Teeny's head was a fixture in Varney from at least the end of beta right up to the big Linden abandoned land release which preceeded 1.2 and land tiers.
The last shot was taken at the base of George Busch's replica of the Washington Monument. This picture was from late beta. The Monument was a part of the old Route 66 build. After George left SL, the Monument was relocated to the Americana build in the recently opened Blue sim.

(I'm running Norton Internet Security.) If your firewall is stripping referrer information, you will get the no remote linking image. Turn it off and try again. Hit ctrl+F5 to force reload if you still see it.

Two more.
I just remembered that I had a few shots on one of my other machines. I originally ran SL on my second fastest machine because I didn't want to screw up my fastest machine with "buggy beta software" (yes, my actual words).
The first shot was taken in the old beta era version of Venice. Old Venice disappeared just before 1.2 and prim limits on land. If I recall correctly, there was a music trivia contest in progress. Back in the day, many SL avatars were freakishly tall, hence the title of the shot.
The second shot, if you look closely, shows several things that were different back in beta. First, Teeny is sitting on the ground in the old beta floor seating position. The cross-legged position had not been implemented yet. Also, the "prissy" female sitting position that Michi hates so much did not exist. Both genders sat the same way. Second, we have the simplistic pre-1.1 ground textures. If you had a GeForce 2 card back then, you couldn't even render these simple ground textures. Third, this shot was taken is what is now the Welcome Area. I think this shot was taken my first or second week in world, around late May of 2003.

Below are pictures taken at the Amphitheater, it was at this event: /invalid_link.htmlYes, me and Asmo where insane enough to stay for 15 hours touching a motorcycle. See, before GOM/IGE we would do ANYTHING for money. Edit to add: the lights on stage changed colors, you can see off to the side of the stage boxes that could be clicked (I think) to play around with them as well.

Hmm, this may give me enough reason to go through all my snapshots. I just uploaded one of Avatar Central all alone in Aqua on the day the colored sims came online to BlackAdder York's thread. I will take a look and see if there is anything good in my collection. I was pretty quick with the ~ since I figured hard drive space was cheap enough to fill with piles of bitmaps

Thanks, everyone, for posting images. Huns, yes, it was my firewall that was causing me the problems.
We've got some nice snapshots here. Please, keep 'em coming.

The Lindens used to hold their Town Halls at the Clara Amphitheater. Did anyone take a snapshot at one of those? Say, a wide shot showing how many people were in attendance?
