We still can't vote no.
The essential problem: Assume there are two proposals, 1 and 2. 1 is controversal, 2 is not. 1 is something that all users understand, like zoning 2 is something only some users understand, even though it may have a big impact, like scripting improvements Case A: Current system Proposal 1 gets 500 yes votes Proposal 2 gets 50 yes votes Result: Proposal 1 gets more priority Case B: With no votes, the same proposals Proposal 1 gets 500 yes votes Proposal 1 gets 500 no votes - because it is a controversial issue Proposal 2 gets 50 yes votes Proposal 2 gets 1 no vote Result: Proposal 2 gets priority since it still has a number of votes, but they are overwhelmingly yes ... Conclusion: The current system puts priority on hot-button issues over issues that are widely supported. _____________________

We still can't vote no. ok so there are still problems with the voting itself and there are a few very pointless proposals... but it's much improved! _____________________

yeah yeah but i can go through them in sequence now... woot! ok so there are still problems with the voting itself and there are a few very pointless proposals... but it's much improved! It's improved, but the most functional improvement was passed over. It's ironic that the voting system, which is in place to prioritize features by public opinion, had added features that did not include something that has been deemed a priority by a whole lot of people. _____________________

I agree with Hiro.
Not being able to vote no -- it's like the Soviet Union! I can't believe that was a programming issue. What *were* they thinking???? _____________________

Well, as we know, we didn't have the ability to do ANY voting prior to this. At least we have some sort of say about what will happen now.
Sure, it's not perfect, but they are trying, and I am sure this won't be the last upgrade to the system. Not to mention they have some other, bigger fish to fry. The haggard addage about perception - the glass being half empy or half full - is appropriate here I think... RL elections & props. Do you get to cast "no" votes? _____________________

RL elections & props. Do you get to cast "no" votes? Propositions: Yes, you can vote no. Elections: You vote "no" by voting for an alternative. In these cases with SL voting, no alternative is given. Robert's Rules of Order, Congressional procedure, most business voting procedures: Require a quorum to pass a vote. This means that even if everyone voting votes yes, those people must still represent a significant (depending on what quorum is) amount of the population. _____________________

RL elections & props. Do you get to cast "no" votes? Of course, there's a "no" lever to pull down on city propositions. And yes, Hiro is right about Robert's Rules of Order. The "quorum" would never be reached here. _____________________

Yay for the new vote layout! It is a great step in the right direction!! I agree with that StoneSelf!
![]() The essential problem: Assume there are two proposals, 1 and 2. 1 is controversal, 2 is not. 1 is something that all users understand, like zoning 2 is something only some users understand, even though it may have a big impact, like scripting improvements I also totally agree with you Hiro, that we need a "No" vote option. And your examples do well to show why. Though personally I also think there is another huge reason to have a "No" vote option. Sometimes people can put things up that sound great, but they are worded in a way that you can't tell the consequences could be bad! And some may not think of those consequences. They may vote yes thinking the idea sounds great, but may not have given thought to this "other" thing that "might could happen". Hmmm.. I hope that made sense. It would probably help if I drank some coffee. hehe ![]() _____________________
