Do not miss the Touchstone Fun Fair and Educational Expo! This has been going on since May 1st, but I just happened to notice it on the events calendar today. I spent about an hour and a half there before I logged off, and I haven't even seen it all yet!
This is the sort of thing that a new(ish) player like myself really enjoys, and I think you will, too! There's all kinds of things there, from the fun stuff - don't miss the Rocket Ship! - to the educational - a display about handicapped players all playing one avatar on the game, for instance, was especially interesting.
And freebies! Who doesn't like party favors? Be sure to find the display shelves of toys, and feel free to click on each and every one to get a copy for yourself! With balloon animals you can get and wear and tasty treats of all kinds, this really feels like the real thing!
There's culture, too. Be sure to check out a sculpture called "Avatars" (near some of Strax what's-his-name's work, which is itself always so singularly and beautifully Strax-styled you can recognize it before putting it in edit). The "Avatars" work took my breath away - so powerful, and at the same time, so touching. I bet this piece speaks to nearly everyone as it did me. Truly a fine, fine art work.
Be sure and try out EVERYTHING. Some things do things you don't expect, in the best easter-egg tradition of all things computer.
This fair represents the absolute best of the best in the game, in my opinion, and as a newer player, it makes me remember why I'm here. For other new players, it will give you a true taste of the talent, humor, whimsy, playfulness, and humanity of the other players in this game who did such a bang-up job on this whole thing. Immersive escapism at its best!
