Early Mac adopters / Lifetime membership

Just a quickie. I know that there was a lifetime membership plan available for the Beta users or somesuch. I personally would *love* to have been able to have one of those accounts, but a client for the Mac was unavailable during those early days.

I registered my interest early on and hopped on board pretty much as soon as the Mac client became available. Do any other early Mac users think that it would have been nice to have had the option to purchase lifetime accounts? Seeing as we were effectively paying to be the beta test group for the Mac client?

Not really a gripe, but curious to see what others think

Excellent!

Kei this was discussed back in Feb. or March - lot of support then - not sure if that thread is in the archives.

I think we should be able to get lifetime memberships too :) Especially with all that extra cash flowing into LL :) We should at least get some free land for the ATI/AGP fiasco! :D

I waited to play until the first mac beta. One of the early public testers. I should at least get one of those cool vive tee shirts or a fez.

Ha ha. Typical. I'll probably be late for my own funeral too. Let's hear more views from Maccers and support from non Maccers. GO!!! :D

My two drachma:

I think the primary reason why the early users of SL were rewarded with lifetime memberships was because the Lindens were still unsure about the future of SL. They needed the support of those early adopters so that the world would flourish. Once they had reached that threshold of sustainability, they no longer needed to reward players for playing the game. One of the side effects of becoming successful was the creation of a Mac client. It was not the other way around. Though the Mac users have had to suffer through some growing pains of their own, their contribution to the growth of SL was and is far less important than that of the true pioneers. Let us be honest with ourselves. If the entire population of mac users were to abandon the world en masse, the exodus would only dent the LL pocket book ever so slightly. By contrast, if those early beta members had fled SL, then the LL pocket book would have literally imploded into a ravenous black hole, consuming all things Linden.

Nice idea, but not a practical one. Everyone and their alt will sign up for it claiming to be a Mac user... Logging on from a friend's Mac if need be.

I've got 16-18 Macs of all ages (I've lost count, most of the old ones are boxed up) but bought a PC just to play SL after giving it a try for a week or two from my work computer. I started using the Mac version as soon as I could, and still use it now when not near a faster computer.

I did pay for a (super) Lifetime account just before they ran out of them. They just aren't balanced against the normal accounts -- They are a GREAT deal. Now that Second Life's future is looking VERY good, there isn't as much incentive for Linden Lab to lure players with such a sweet discount. I imagine that if they ever come back, they will be at a much higher price and/or come with some sort of limitations. They would also have to be open to everyone, sine there's no way to limit that.
