Ok, I haven't gotten a proper answer to this yet. Can someone please tell me - authoritatively - what the "Given" rating is based on?

I've heard that it's about actually handing people stuff, or how many ratings you've given, or .... whatever.

What is it? And what sociological failing of mine has brought me a negative number?

The "given" rating is the number of ratings you have given someone else.

+ for # of positive (combined total for appearance, behavior, building)
_ for # of negative (combined total for appearance, behavior, building)

Camille,

I have heard that definition before, and beleived it. However, it seems not to be true.

I have, as far as I remember, given AT MOST 2 negative ratings in my 9 months in-world. And those were single behavior ratings. Yet, I now have a -6 rating in Given. It may be that you are right, but then I have to report it as not working properly. I am not particularily worried about my rating, but I hate the feeling that bits of data are leaking away without anyone noticing. ;-)

I guess I'll say the magic words: "Can I get a ruling from a Linden?"

And, please, no offense meant, can I get a Linden who'll double-check first? I've noticed that folklore sometimes appears even in the most concientious Linden responses. ;-)

Maybe it's so low becasue I have Gotten more than I've Given? I did win the Lottery this week.

?

It could be that you accidently neg rated someone instead of pos rating them. It is very easy to do.

Mine have not changed.

Plus if people neg rate you for winning the lottery it wouldn't show up in your 'given' ratings, would be in your received.

Well, I'm no math expert, but if you've negatively rated two people in all three slots, would it not be possible for that to add up to a number in the range of six? Lindens, can you check my figures?

I've heard there are many many rating bugs where the profile will list you as having given or received more/less ratings than you really have.

Doubt it will ever be fixed either.

Clearing up a few things.

I have only negative rated one or two times and that was ONLY in behavior. Certianly not for a total of six times.

And I was wondering if I got a negative "giving" score for having RECEIVED so much money. I wasn't worried about people neg rating me for winning.

So.....

I'm kind of hoping a Linden will give me a final answer on what the "Given" rating is actually composed of.

It is exactly as it sounds - it is the amount of ratings you have given. Nothing else even makes sense. If it is incorrect its a bug, which is quite possible. However what it stands for is how many ratings you have given.

Well, it gets even stranger.

I talked to Dan Linden and he says that the negative Given rating is indeed the total of the negative ratings I've dealt out. Since this is not possible, I've reported the discrepency. Are people getting negative ratings from me that I did not give them???

ANYWAY, while checking this all out, I've found something that just makes me even MORE confused.

What the hell is the entry in MANY of my daily entries in my Account History details that says:

Gifts (given) -1

Dan doesn't think they have anything to do with the ratings, but what the heck IS it then??????

And, if anyone has an extra moment while we're at this, can you explain this pair of terms?:

Bonus (Total Rating)
Bonus (Weekly Rating)

<sigh>

Doesn't the L$1 you pay to rate someone count as a gift given?

yes. now, every rating you give costs 1L$. so if you rate someone's behaviour and appearance, you've spent 2L$ and that will show in your gift total.

The ratings bonus for total and change over the past week are now paid seperately. The amounts doled out for each are based on a tier system.
