Some people are experiencing unbelievable lag after the update. I have not had much problem but two people I know can hardly move in the game, taking 20 minutes for clothes to change etc. They haven't changed anything since the before the update and are not seeing any network ping loss. Is anyone else seeing this?

Part of the issue with increased lag is the way they bring down the grid.

When the bring down all the servers, they also wipe out their cache. As a result... when all the sims go back onilne, they hammer the data/asset server getting EVERYTHING back at once.

Imagine a couple thousand avs and 500 sims asking one computer for everything from the beginning... :D

Perhaps in the future, they should give it an hour of "warm up" time?

If no one's in the world, it can't "warm up".

It only looks for textures and objects and whatnot as people fly through the world.

Sounds to me as if this is a process that needs to be redesigned then.

But of course, many will probably flame and say I am talking out of my ass here.

Go for it.

Actually, I agree.

LLabs entire scalable architecture is limited by one thing -- the data/asset server.

They need to decentalize that hardcore.

Everybody agrees. Hell, I think I've seen three or four threads on the subject of decentralizing that portion of the server in the past month.
