i was thinking for the sl residents to make stuff/do stuff. but nicer servers would be cool.

Yup. Half the people I met on SL are on Ventrilo.

Oh wait. No. That's Valium. n/m.

Is there a common server we all will visit for Ventrilo like the SL Universe server for TeamSpeak?

Hmm don't know if 'Second Voice' is still running - but I used to have chats on that every now and then - it was a pretty good system.

Textures: Gimp -- its free - it works very well.
Animations: For me - Poser 5 ... if someone has a better cheap alternative I'd like to try it out.

Scripting info - LSL Wiki.

Speaking as a newb, a collaborative information exchange would be wonderful. I'm getting interested in doing some things, creatively, and it's tough finding guides that help me along. I know I can post here or ask in-world, but that doesn't always get prompt answers or accurately helpful answers.

Ok, Photoshop is over $500. Poser 5 was around $400 I think. I have the latter but not the former, and while I realize that the complexities of animations might require that kind of a platform on which to run I think there should be some better -cheaper- tools for creating simple textures in the world. I have Paintshop Pro (I think it was $100), and GIMP is free, but I don't have the experience needed to say that either of those does the job satisfactorily.

I used to drone on and on about having an API so we could plug in our own features and use the SL client like a desktop. But that would ruin Philip's and Lordfly's emersion so I gave up.

We don't need tools in SL because it's a world, not a platform.

If you don't feel like shelling out megabucks for photoshop, Gimp is the way to go. Even some professionals use it.

For audio editing you can't go wrong with Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). Best of all, it's free.

Yah....I second that question......
05-27-2005 10:46
what programs do we need to make furniture, Av's and such for this game.

1) I have adobe photoshop cs (grrr- but hey it was a gift for me)

2) The reg. old original version paint program (hey sometimes you get attached to things/its my warm fuzzy).

3)Pennicle Studios (another gift)

4) I am Dl'ing Gimp for now. Before I shell out big bucks I'd rather test a free version.

I too was wondering - what else will i need and is there a simple "step by step makin things for Sl for dummies"
