I haven't done much sound file conversion, but this site seems to be a good resource for it:

I use a plugin for winamp to convert mp3 to wav.
Then I just use my handy dandy windows sound recorder to chop the wav into 10 second bites. #! |

So close yet so far,
Thanks Xav, that program works great in turning mp3's into many 10 second MP3's and i guess i can just convert them all to .wavs now, does anyone know a program that will do the same as this mp3 splitter but instead of cutting them into little mp3's into little .wavs? _____________________

Here's the best one of all

it's called Dbpoweramp. You can get it by going to www.download.com and going to the search engine and typing in dbpoweramp. This program works perfectly for wave to mp3 and mp3 to wave, this program does it all and fast. Best of all the program doesen't cost a single penny. They do have extra plugins you can buy but it's optional. The program is the best, works great, check it out.

Ok, on your recommendation I downloaded and installed it... and yes, it converts very nicely and easily and quickly, but I can't figure out how to snip the wav into 10 second increments. [ It even converted a wav into a wav for me -- yes, I did it on purpose -- the original wasn't 44.1 mhz; the converted one was, and with the shell extension this was MUCH faster than opening it in sound recorder and converting/saving it that way ] #! |

It's not really hard to snip waves with the right stuff. I never expected it to snip my waves. I use sound recorder and another program already on my computer when I got it. All you do is hold your computer mic up to the speakers and hit record. It gives great sound quality and makes good upload time. I never expect a program to magically snip a wave for me, it doesen't bother me recording it on my own. I can make sure it sounds better this way, I can edit things out I don't want this way.

oh but there are programs that will, hehe thats what i was asking and i found a couple..... though the songs I cut by hand... (writing 00:00:00 to 00:10:00 and then copying to file) sound much better than the ones I did using the MP3 splitter... not sure whats wrong but i also told the MP3 splitter to do 10 second clips but it they are 9 when its done... guess i'll go back to hand cuz i waisted money uploading a song that doesn't play right.
