WTF?!?!?!?! whats wrong with them, i didnt mind that they dont use technology until i realized those poor kids are going to turn 18, and not be able to play SL!

The Amish have their own version of SL.
They build stuff with "Primatives" made of what looks (to me) like lumber.
They hold "Events", the most popular one being "Barn Raising".
The Amish are very fashion conscious. To paraphrase Henry Ford, they make clothes in every color of the rainbow, as long as they are black. Many of the local non-Amish Goth kids are awed by their fashion sense.
Vehicles? They make really cool buggies, which are pulled by horses. I'm sure the horse script took years to perfect.
Here is a little known fact. Amish can fly. As a rule, they don't fly in front of outsiders. I read about this in a reputable publication known as the National Enquirer. Or was that the Star...

We have a misconception of the Amish as being extremely uptight and anti-technology... this isn't in fact true. There are Amish with cell phones and electricity... (generators.) They're somewhat mystical, and their teachings forbid 'worldly' connections. So things like plumbing and electricity aren't sins... but tying into the local power grid would be a worldly connection.... ergo sinful. Generators are fine.  |
