I miss the old camera we used to have before 1.1.7 I believe. Now adays, you can move the camera around and zoom just by pressing the arrow keys. I liked the old behavior that forced you to do alt + arrow key, since going out of alt mode allowed the camera to default to a specific position behind your avatar, and kind of 'stick' there.

Seconded. I can't put my finger on it. But I don't like the post 1.1.x camera change.

I find this a hassle especialy when sitting and not being able to recenter cam.

And I thought you could zoom out while on a vehicle, but you can't? Am I missing something with that? If I'm not, its rather anoying.

If you're talking about the camera while sitting, yeah, it was changed because people got annoyed with "getting up" from sitting when the up or down or fly key was accidentally tapped. There are a bunch of cases, in fact, where the AV will "stand up" from sitting when you actually didn't want it to. That might be the problem you're facing now (since "up" and "down" now zoom rather than move).

Think this is it? I personally like the change, as I was a major victim of the "hate getting up when I didn't wanna get up" conspiracy.

i like the camera fine as it is now but the ability to move it side to side and up and down without rotating is gone when you're sitting now.

when you're standing if you hold (i think) control shift alt and move the arrow keys the camera moves sideways and vertically but keeps pointing the same direction. when you sit that does nothing now but it used to work the same.

I simply turn on "camera controls" in the View Menu and use that. Seems to work every time.

I am a much bigger fan of the camera controls in 1.1 than I was in 1.0, other than the disappearance of the focus on option. I find that I can maneuver much more easily and get the exact angle that I need now, though I still do not like the camera auto resetting itself when you go out of edit mode - there should be a camera recenter button on the UI.

I used the camera controls for building all the time, prior to the update. I would swing the camera above the item(s) vertically and pan around as needed. Now when I try to pan, the whole screen just spins wildly. Very frustrating for an anal builder like me. Makes me sorta unwilling to tackle complex builds right now...

:(

Anyone else getting this spinning camera effect?

The camera while sitting is awful now. When you sit on the hot air balloon and try to reposition the camera, it's next to impossible.

Ditto. It's rather bothersome as I found out when trying to add more support cables to my platform in Mauve. :/ (did eventually manage, though)

I use either mouselook (by zooming in with the mousewheel till I'm inside my head) or alt-control-drag around if I'm going to be standing or sitting still for a while. I'm a big fan of out-of-body camera sweeps.

If my camera is off wandering and I want it back in the default 3rd person position behind me, I hit ESC. It's the first thing I do when my camera goes wonky.

When building, I used the modifier keys to drag camera around almost exclusively. (Though for some reason, I almost never pan...) and there IS a bug when the thing you click on to drag is part of a link. Instead of orbiting the point you clicked (as you would on a large, single prim) your center of rotation is moved to the center of the link's bounding box. This is VERY VERY VERY VERY annoying. I've reported it before as a bug.

But because of my tendency to never leave the camera in default 3rd person position, I hadn't even noticed the change this thread was first about. If I'm moving, I'm in 1st person. If I'm still, I rip the camera off. :)
