Abuse: just to be clear, I'm not refering to masturbation here. I'm talking about defending oneself against being pushed or hit with scripts, etc., without having to take out a weapon and use it. I've come across several passive self defense tools or scripts in SL. Basically they claim that they will take whatever push or force is hitting your avatar and turn it back on the griefer, or bounce them across the landscape. Are these effective? Has anyone tried one that they recommend? How does Second Life view these? Do they consider it an attack. Would the person using the self defense tool have committed an Abuse? What is PvP abuse, let me guess Person Versus Person???

Whew... 'Self-Abuse and Defense'? That's kind of a disturbing image. Shields and the like are rarely effective anymore... any shield can be defeated pretty simply. At least, any shield I've ever encountered... er, okay, that makes me sound evil or something, doesn't it. But hey... if someone tries to shoot you, and your shield throws their projectile right back at them... well, they're hitting themselves, technically. Of course, what you ought to do is just abuse report the perpetrator. And don't tell them that you're abuse-reporting them, lest you be banned yourself due to a retaliatory abuse-report.

Any shield creator/vendor that promises anything NEAR 100% effectiveness is lying out of their ass. The only sure-fire way to protect against push scripts is sitting down on a non-physical prim.

I've seen some shields with cool effects but outside of consensual gameplay and certain modes, they may not be practically effective on the whole. An example would be: in a crowded club, someone starts shooting at you and your shield properly repels the attacks. Great, but the visual fingerprint of said shield is now ghosted -- many times over -- and cluttering up the club. In this situation, it may have been more effective to take a quick seat. Also, if someone repeatedly shoots you and you try to communicate and they still shoot you (and see you as "defenseless" , you may have a more valid case for filing an Abuse Report than if the shield blocked the projectiles, as I don't think collisions with your avatar will be included in the PvP Abuse window (someone please clarify this?).
