Recently reading in a local paper there was a notation about updates in the Animal saftey laws.

>>>;((legal gibberish n numbers)) states it is expressly forbidden to attach explosive instruments to any wild creature. Punitive damages can be fined against the perpetraitors for not only endangering wild life but public property.

This law was enacted after two Blue Tick and Red Tick hound owners used a disturbing method to train their dogs when to chase and not to chase.
The Owners would trap wild rabbits in flip traps and proceed to tie a M80 fire cracker via a 15 in lead.
Meanwhile upon lighting the fuse the rabbits would take off in a frenzied run and scamper of into the underbrush dragging the fire cracker behind them.

The dogs if fast enough would catch the rabbit and the fire cracker would explode harmlessly but scaring both animals into a new chase.

Unfortunately after using this method to train the dogs numerous times.

The local vetrinarian became suspecious when having to put several of the hounds to sleep due to massive mouth injurys.

Owners were quoted saying "well dem there was the stupid ones they were suppose to catch the rabbit not the fire cracker..stupid dogs!"

Both men are behind bars awaiting trial for animal endangerment. Bond has been set at 1 million per offender at this time.

I read that and it totaly blew my mind of how stupid some people can be...Oh well.

I agree my son's Cub Scout Troop has started a local animal saftey awareness program. We have recieved so many congrats and some seriously sad stories about animals.

I love my dog and all of the other pets we have had in the past but this took the cake for me when I read it the first time.

But I totaly agree there are not enough Animal saftey laws out there to protect pet owners.

My favorite animal was a Shepard Wolf mix I had as a boy. She was confined on our land with 6' high fences and could not get out to harm anyone. Bathsheba was beautiful and the kindest animal anyone could ever know. One day we came home and found her dead from where someone came in the yard and poured Antifreeze in her waterbowl.

So far my sons Campaign with his troop has saved 23 dogs and 58 cats in conjunction with the local human society.

So basically as the boys would say..."If you see a pet in need definately do the good deed" find em a home or report the abuse to local authorities.

the good thing is ...these are the same kinda asshats that usually have short life spans because they do the same types of things to themselves....There was a pic of a Darwin award winner who lit a M-80 while it was in his mouth thinking he would have time to throw it...it blew his face off and he wasn't able to foul the gene pool anymore.

These types of incididents are usually proceeded by the idgit handing his beer to someone and saying "hey, watch this".

This practice will most likely go on but instead of getting these dogs treated, the rednecks will now just shoot them dead.

That's disturbing that people should show such disregard to both the dogs and the rabbits. :( Glad to hear they're behind bars.

Dang Shadow your batting 100 getting Jesikatized twice in one day. :D

The only time that I have every struck another human being without being struck first anyway, was when I saw a man beating his dog with a 2 X 4 in the back of his pick up truck.

He was about 6' and more that 200 lbs and I was 5'6 and 125 lbs but let me tell you that he backed down real quick after I wrestled that 2 X 4 out of his hands and cracked him in the hip with it. He didn't say a word when I had my little brother pick the dog up and put him in the back of my car either.

The dog had a punctured ear drum, broken rib and internal injuries but pulled through and became my best buddy for eight years.

I will NEVER understand people who do this and I'm not sure I want to.

I can't imagine someone putting antifreeze in an animals water, but I'm afraid that if that ever happened to one of my furr friends and I found out who did it - well - the retribution would not be pretty and I'd probably find myself on the wrong side of the law pretty quickly.

I'm currently reading this book, which I highly recommend. It's sympathetic to how animals think and react and makes mistreating an animal all the more detestable. A dog may not be able to hold a conversation or do your taxes, but they're good natured, thinking and feeling beings who don't deserve abuse.

Yes I know Rose but when I go after multiple topics nothing better than getting the attention they deserve by being Ized twice...

This thread served a two fold purpose to 1 illicite understanding of animal rights and 2 served as a pinacle of conversation to a very important topic on the forums back in the General Forum.

I am still very adament as well as my son is about animal saftey. I wasn't trying to promote animal cruelty but the understanding that there are some asshats out there that truly deserve more focus on for punishment than some of the diatribe that floats in these forums.

As for Bathsheba, she was more than a dog for me as I was an only child thus she was my best friend since I lived out in the country. Seeing dweebs do stuff like those two mentioned in the law change breaks my heart across the board when it comes to any animal.
