Ok I need educated please.

With all the talk about events lately, and support, or lack there of, I thought I would test the system. Yep, last week I had an event and checked the block for cover charge for the very first time. I marked it for $2L and had 40 avies show up that evening - woot woot. Later that evening while I was about ready to nod off to sleep, my eyes popped open as I remembered I had posted the cover charge !! Woot Woot should be about $80L!!!! Hmmm? I did not remember seeing any blue money signs go off during the event. Got up and relooked at my account and nope - no money.
So what did I do wrong?
Was I suppose to collect $2.00 from each individual that showed up?
"Hey you - give me you $2L or your out of here!"
That will never happen, as a host im too busy making sure everything is ready to worry about that.

This is what I thought would happen - call me crazy - but its what I thought.
I click the box, list my price, and when the event happens, as a person is teleported there to the location, the money is deposited into my account.

Dont get me wrong, im not loosing my sleep over this, just curious how the mechanics work. With all the technology and scripting and modern whiz banging going on in this game, thats how I thought it would work.

You also need to set it up in your land properties :)

Foolish mortal! Your nonsensical views on how the cover charge should work only make sense! You're lucky you didn't ask for a direct teleport to events or you will have been smited for certain! Hold thy tongue next time, lest you incur the wrath of the deities!

I'm afraid you have to collect it. The entry in the event listing is just that ...

There is no easy way to collect a cover charge, even if you set it to your land they can just as easy participate outside of your land lol... it's a real pain in the butt... they need to find another way to do this, especially if you are hosting an event that has a mall or something as a part of your land, people would be forced to pay if they chose to shop during your event...

Maybe have them pay the cover to buy a bracelet. Set the land to cause insta-death to anyone without one, hehe.

mmmh the idea of the bracelet is not bad, but i think it would need a quite intensive communication between the bracelets and the security scripts taking care of seeing if people actually have the bracelet, and probably timers to have this communication continue over time. this would probably cause an helluva lot of lag with many bracelets around... not sure if there is any other way to script something like this...

Oh so thats why more ppl dont do cover charges.

Its not that they are afraid that no one would show up because they charged a little ole $2 or $20.

Its because the process is mechanically and technically fubar.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. . . . . . Okay

Tang,
Use the about land window. There is an admission charge option. It allows you to set the price and the number of hours the purchased passes are valid for.
The major problem I see with this is, if your land is deeded to a group, all members of that group split the total collected revenues.

The problem is that people are not used to doing it - at one of the tsumani benefits this was in place and we kept having to shout people through it. Some people left as they couldn't fathom it.

People will have to learn. It's really very easy.

For some reason, the option is completely grayed out on my land - can you not set this option on group land?

I could script the bracelet idea and it wouldn't be that bad, it's all about the paradigm in which you use.

Security script over xxxx channel in shout says, '1' at a 5 minute interval.

The bracelets respond with whoever is wearing it over the course of 1 - 280 (4 minutes, 40 seconds) interval at random.
So bracelet A would respond at some random number of second between 1 and 280.
Bracelet B would respond at ... you get the idea.

The security script puts those people in a list that it receives a response from.

at the 5 minute interval, it does a scan, anyone without the bracelet is handled in some way.

This would prevent the bracelets and security script from doing all of their communication at once and perhaps loosing data and causing spikes in lag.

It's just a theory at the moment, but I think it could be done.

With events lasting typically an hour, 5 min polling seems pretty reasonable and would keep the lag down.

Just some random thoughts for the morning.
