The amount of tax assessed on land is a really high percentage. (What's that, you want me to tell you something you didn't already know?)
Here's what I was thinking...
What if the initial purchase price were higher, but the weekly tax were lowered? And in addition to that, if you release land to the public you only get back a certain percentage of your purchase price, rather than the full 100%? Directly selling your land to someone else would of course net you the entire sale amount.

I like that idea actually. Quite frankly the idea of taxes is rather disturbing and makes one scramble to keep their buisness running. I am def one to see taxes lower or disappear entirely (beta testers only). Maybe to say a special thank you to us on top of what they are doing hehe. Seriously though... land tax IS big, object tax is annoying... we helped found this world...maybe we can get a better cut of it? Just a thought. Linden Labs is still doing a great job making this a real living breathing world and I am hooked (I would be more hooked if I knew the darn price for a lifetime membership dern it! lol)

I agree with this idea, I really dont like taxes, and I would be greatly 'for' a new system like the one proposed above. I also cant wait to see whats in store for us beta testers!

These taxes ARE annoying. My team is trying to put up a space station and plus the cost of land, we are paying 300 dollars in tax PER object! How are we supposed to offer things there if everything we put out is 300 dollars?

Derek, have you considered a space-station on the ground? :/
I think I might've been a bit misunderstood.
I'm not proposing that taxes go away.
I'm suggesting a smaller that the current percentage for *land* taxes only. A *much* smaller percentage, because I'm also proposing that the purchase price be raised, and that releasing land to public would not give you back your entire purchase price. Something that occurred to me last night was that in order for that last bit to really work, we'd need to be able to re-parcel our land as needed, without releasing to public.

You were understood no problem. Just bringing up the fact that taxes arte an annoyance that make it difficult being what we want to be in the game is all.
