How is Landownership Traffic Funding Different From Event Funding?

For those of you that argue the point that Clubs should not get Event Funding, why should anyone get any funding including Traffic? Is this Fair to say that because Clubs get Event Funding they shouldn't exist without Educational type Events when Landowners and Merchants that own land get Funding for Traffic? Explain....

Well, the money from traffic is based on popularity, and you need a hell of a lot of it to get anything. Like $75 a month is a lot different to $2000 a day.
Anyway, club-owners are landowners too, so they aren't excluded from this.

All you are saying Blake is that Dwell should be taken away.

Others have stated this too. There is debate on that issue.

That is correct, there should be no bias. There should be no funding based on the argument that Clubs get handouts. No one should get handouts, no one should be excluded if you argue the point about Club Events getting Subsidies.

The landowner of the club will still get the same traffic money as anyone else with land that has the same traffic.

The only thing that has changed is you will no longer get by LL paid to host events. LL has been discussing this for months. And will eventually do away with all bonuses.

Okies. I'm OK with not getting that L$75. Take away dwell/traffic - and all the other developer incentives, as well as any stipend bonus. Now the economy is going to have to be based on trade of goods and serivces, with a little renewal in the form of stipends. *shrug* So what? I thought you had a point to make.

According to recent replies, Clubs shouldn't get handouts. I make the agrument, how can you say that when you as a Landowner get handouts from Traffic? No one should get any funding period based on that view.

Agreed - however, there is a difference between dwell and the event funding. Dwell is a competitive thing that varies wildly based upon how much effort you put into attracting players to your land and keeping them there. Event subsidies were paid out equally, just for having an event.

I'm with Cris on this one. It's a valuable incentive for land owners/builders/creators to erect (mmm, nice word choice lol) compelling in-world content.

Funding is Funding period and is a Handout.

But far less subjective than ratings-based stipend payments.

Which is why I said agreed - but you are comparing two things that are not equal.

Thing is, no one is saying that clubs specifically shouldn't get funding ... I think LL is just trying to nudge more instructional events into the open.

Also, one point that many people were making was that a lot of club folk abuse the funding system by holding pointless events simply to make money. It's very easy to have a "sexiest av" contest. Anyone who's been to one of those can say that a lot of the time -- not ALL the time, but a lot -- they're shit. The host sucks. People dance around and don't say anything.

The clubs have had their funding for a long time now, don't you think LL ought to even the score a little? There are still a hell of a lot more club events than educational ones. Are you saying that educational ones shouldn't get funding, Blake?

Policy could have been implented stating that the 500L you get for Event Funding has to go to the winners based on a scripted voting system that show names and results of the votes. That is not a valid excuse. Linden Labs could have implemented this system within the game. As for the rest of your statement about nudging the agenda is clear.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always had to send an Email to the events manager listing prize winners, amounts, etc. They even came up with a scripted event reporting tool that automated most of that process.

They could have implented a click system within each Club that communicates directly with Linden Labs based on contestant votes. There would be no need for direct reporting by the Host. Click the button, insert your name, insert contestant you are voting for and send.

Ok, maybe I'm already drunk or something, but why is traffic being compared to event funding like this?

I mean, event hosting at clubs is a teaser/advertisement to generate traffic. Clubs hail and can be rewarded by Dwellnor, or whatever the "traffic" equivalent is, the same as any other use of land (malls, gathering places, bingo, DarkLife, Spittoonie, and lord knows what else).

Traffic is the same system for everyone, regardless of the use of the land, so I don't see any clear bias there, how it ends up maybe another matter. Events is wholly different. I don't see how changing event rules can be considered biased to clubs. Clubs are generally the dwell kings after all, very few avs shop in the same mall for over an hour at a time.

Now if the intent of this "bias" reasoning is to go after the Traffic system itsef, okay, but there are better arguments to make that case.

Not too certain. I suspect our Blakey here just likes the attention. I'm sure Willow will be here soon to administer a spanking.

Okay, thinking about it some more, you COULD make an argument for bias if the "sexy avie" contests were the only ones killed off (LL funding wise). Lots of other events, not usually held in clubs are also biting the bullet on this one though. If it is going to be limited to only Mentor/Instructor events or so, I don't see this new restriciton (whether it is wise or not is another thread) being solely anti-club. Hell, if the the Lindens only funded events on Linden land where traffic cannot be paid (and this may be the case, not sure myself) then it is simply a means to NOT be biased against folks who are doing things on public land.

Basically, given the limited types of events that will continue to receive LL funding, I don't see any inherent bias. And if these events are limited to LL land (maybe they are already, not sure) there won't be even the slightest hint of one.

ETA: Just noticed that you can still have these funded education events on private land. Okay, maybe not ideal, but understandable to occasionally maintain order against griefers. Still, the traffic from this will be negligble I suspect, and many of these events are held on LL land anyway.

Blake,What part of you missed the bus did you miss?

landowership Trafic is "DWELL" plain and simple same system new name.

So why should Club owners get "DWELL" and a Linden Supported Bonus

I mean when you buy a sterio and it has that do not eat jell in it people dont think"Hey I got music n Gum" so why should the Club owners get to double dip.

I mean seriously they are doing their job by having an exciting club right?

Dont confuse the facts keep it simple or KISS. <<Meant in the context of Keep it Simple Silly.
