Is anyone running this version? I am getting ready reformat and reinstall on both of my machines. I wanted to know if I should upgrade to the Media Center Edition.

Thanks Kids! One love.

What's your priority? Entertainment or gaming or other?

Gaming and Internet Surfing. I would utilize the media features but dont really need them.

It is a different build or the same XP build with integrated media features? I am really doing all of this in the name of performance. My machines are so fucking sluggish. :(

Yeah its a different build really. The processing and programming is more focused on entertainment applications such as hmm.. *thinks* video conferencing, music, videos, as it's more designed to do those better than what the main XP OS is used for, applications, gaming etc. So I'd suggest Windows XP Pro if you can :).

The Gospel according to Microsoft:

"A computer running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 delivers the full power and functionality of Windows XP. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is the best version of Windows for the home."

And from another source:

"Media Center Edition is based on Windows XP Home Edition Core, although the OS has many features which are only supposed to be in the Professional variants. It appears as if MCE2005 has scattered features of both operating systems."

XP Pro.

I do this for a living. XP Media Edition is a streaming-enhanced version of XP Home which is a crippled OS. (thus, better than XP home for SL purposes). XP Pro would be better, all around.
