This is a guy who was in Iraq and scheduled to go back over soon. One post from his blog made it around the Internet quite a bit and it was somewhat controversial.

Anyway, the entire blog is definitely a good read. He was only 18 when he went over and celebrated his 19th birthday in Iraq. He is a mechanic.

He writes with the humor and candor of a kid his age. Even if you don't agree with him, I think you can relate to his frustration.

There is a really interesting exchange between him and another soldier in the comments section. It seems that active combat troops tend to support Bush while support personnel tended to support Kerry (or anyone but Bush). I thought that was interesting. Anyone with more perspective than me care to weigh in on that?

From Drew's journal:

"Who invented coffee cake? Seriously that has to be the single best combination of two things since somebody invented sex."

ohh k... well those of who cook know that Coffee Cake has no coffee in it, so what 2 things could he be talking about? Unless coffee flavoring counts. :p

Perhaps he was referring to the joining of coffee and cake... while on their own are singularly delicious, when combined into a single meal their delights grow exponentially more than the sum of their parts.

Of course I think that coffee tastes like sour ass, so I could be wrong in inferring that :D

I've never tasted sour ass, but I do love coffee. Maybe I would also like sour ass.

Interesting.

I think it's a lot like sweet ass, except the acid content is different. Either way i'm not much of an ass person :)

Now if coffee tasted like sexy bald guy, i'd be all over it :D

I dont know what you americans call coffee cake, but I can assure you my coffee cake is chock full of caffeinated goodness. And it goes great with some good, old-fashioned coffay of the fluid kind.

I just finished chatting with him...What an amazing and brave soldier. He is a testament to everything american in more ways than I would have ever thought. He is also a reason for me to continue writing congress in order to get the enlisted more benefits and most of all more money. I cannot say how moved I was by the humility of this young man.

No matter how much I abhor Bush, I will always love and fight for our soldiers. May he come home safely, may they all come home safely.
