Involuntary Avatar Transitions

Yesterday, I loaded up the latest version of SL, signed in and puttered around a bit. I didn't catch it right away, since we all walk around with our backs turned, AND it was very dark at the time. Soon, however, I became aware that things were not as they should be.

First, my back tattoo was missing. Actually, I found that ALL my tattoos had fallen off. That's ok. I found them in Inventory and reapplied them.

Also, my skin color was WAY off. Not an unpleasant color, but still WAY off. And, all my freckles were gone. With anything that has three sliders, it is tricky to reproduce a particular shade. It'll be a while before I get it back to what I want.

Finally, my face was wrong. Not completely wrong-like-after-an-accident wrong, but the lower part of my face was all squashy. (And my make up and all come off!) So, I started tuning. A couple hours later, and it looks a lot better - but it's still not the same face. Now I wish I'd gone through and written down all the numbers on all the sliders, but I suspect the numbers never actually changed – that this is just how my avatar was destined to appear in this version. So, what to do? I guess, I just punt, and pretend I'm recovering from reconstructive surgery.

It is, however, disconcerting. I have been making tiny little changes to my avatar (apparently a major part of the game-play to me) for about 7 months. I was a bit surprised to realize how cross this all made me, but then I've been twiddling those sliders one or two increments at a time for months - and was actually getting to where I was satisfied. (Well, perhaps.) :-/

So, I guess I need to ask - though I fear I know the answer already - is there any way to go back in time a couple days, to just before the last upgrade, and retrieve a copy of my avatar? Does anyone know if this would help? Or is the simple act of loading the latest going to just re-break the avatar?

Was this all because I keep my avatar's bit & pieces in a folder at the top level of my inventory, instead of in Body Parts or some such thing?

And, before someone suggests it's all my imagination, I already noted the differences in how my avatar looked in 1.1 - 1.1.2. The changes in 1.1.3 are very dramatic.

And, finally, can someone tell me if there is a way to back up an avatar against this kind of happening in the future? That's a LOT of numbers to write down :-/

I suppose I could just chuck her in a box :-/

Kathy, have you tried adjusting the avatar detail setting in display preferences? I think that because of the number of graphics driver related crashes people are having that they lowered the default settings a tad depending on what graphics card you have. Try fiddling with the preference and see if it gets you back closer to what you had. Hope it helps! :)

Thanks Chip. Really, I did check all the settings in Prefs. I thought that might be the cause until I realized that it wasn't just a rendering issue. I had lost three tats and my make up, at least.

Thanks for the try, thoguh :-)

I'm glad someone else noticed this.

In 1.0 and 1.1 the light on my face made me look different than at night. In 1.1.2 this stopped and I looked the same in daylight and nightlight. Now in 1.1.3 its back to looking completely different in daylight -especially at a distance-

Whats more is that my skin tone lightened (according to several people and past pictures). I have since adjusted that - as well as my breasts & hips which for some reason were larger.

I just wish the light didnt make me look different than at night.
