As a few of you that messaged me have noticed from my test.

(SINCE 1.1 is for testing purposes)

I had my following eyeball w/particle stream, up for reasons of a test.

One of the tests was to have a working demonstration to those interested and the Lindens, as to how the particle system can be abused, and be used for a rather annoying griefing tool. The range should be capped on the streams as this demonstrated rather well.

It in no way reflects what I intend to do in the public version. So keep ahold of those itchy rating fingers plz :-).

Oh god yes, this was ANNOYING. Lagged me out with the particles, I hated it. Lindens, PLEASE fix that. Have some way so you can set it so particles will never follow you.

no i think that souldn't be the nerfed part of it james, I think the range should be.

As I also at one point had a stream going object to object across a full sim.

Limit the range, dont take follow off.

Two notes:

If the particles are lagging you out then you probably have your particle count set too high in preferences (graphics tab I believe). Lower it so the max won't lag you out.

And yes, range should be capped.

I dont like range limit.. unless its implimented correctly.

I was planning on using the particle system to track objects that I loose, that could be anywhere in the world.

If the particle system 'cuts off' after a certain distance and reactivates near the target object, like an overstretched rubber band, then Id agree with it.

An example is attached.

In the picture, the green object starts a particle system who's target is the red object or vice versa, the distance between them is arbitrary.

very tru chris, range could work for particle viewing distance from an object. good example there.

I like that idea.

EDIT:

Just thought of after I posted.

In ragards to the eyeball experiment. there should/could be a limited range to how far an av has even this particle effect from an object too. So that we dont have unsuspecting people flying around with multiple streams comeing from them, even in the manner you suggest.

That too could get annoying fast.
