Well I can't take the heat so I am getting outta this kitchen. For the too manyeth time my little piece of prop has a giant ugly build right next to it. Gormz Gomez has built the biggest, ugliest club that I have ever laid eyes on! And I told him so. SO he has banned me. LOL
Like I would go to his club. Anyway.
That said. Good bye ya'll. Its been interesting. If you want what used to be a lovely piece of porperty I have water land for sale under dopeys club for 18000 or so for about 2500 sqm but of course you will have to live in the shadow of said big black box.
What else is new?
I will miss those of you ... that I care about. My membership is up in March so I will be around a little until then.

Why not move land? It's far more constructive than quitting SL because some knob's built a club next to you. Or you could wait it out - hopefully, the economic changes will mean less of this sort of rubbish.

Ursa, I just bought a bunch of land in Boardman and a few of my friends are building houses there. Not a club around. Just throwing that out there as a possibility.

aww Ursa! You are welcome to crash and build on my big shop rooftop in Sistiana until you find a new location. I'm working on the Gallery going up there, but that won't be for another few months, so I've got room and prims to spare for the moment. A lot of groups are doing zoned communities now too, and they may be just the thing for you to find. Or even start yourself! Anyway, just let me know if you want to use my rooftop for a while, I'd love to help keep you around if at all possible!

Ursa's way too cool to be allowed to leave!
I simply will not permit it! So there, I have spoken. Ursa, go to your room and rethink this silly attitude!

Ursa, In addition to Boardman, Brown has a ton of open land that is zoned "no clubs". A couple of days ago, huge parcels were dirt cheap.

You folks always make me laugh! Well, I may not go completely... but I am so tired of buying... building... moving... wash rinse repeat. - that I have no desire to do that again - Maybe I will... have a landless membership for awhile. Then I can still haunt these forums and a few cool events. I once had the idea of becoming the SL bag lady. Maybe start a bag lady group - we can crash here and there. ok.. I will stay. But that 'person' (I use the term loosely) is obviously an alt -- so whoever is trying to drive folks from their land wins here. Will the real GORMZ GORMEZ please standup and be a man.. or a woman.. and let us in on your plan? * I am laughing now... Because its so obviously a build to drive out anyone with any sense of anything. I am just annoyed that this is what happens all over the place.. and its ok. You are right - I need to join and add to an existing community - so thank you for the offers. You may find me there one day!

Ursa, Yes, I would like to echo Chip's sentiments. I am glad that you are considering remaining in the forums, but do hope you don't allow yourself to be discouraged by unneighbourly builds inworld. It has always been my experience in sl that if you can grit your teeth and wait it out, the build eventually goes the way of all ugly builds. It's amazing how even the basic topography of the land changes over time.

URSA!!!! Be my neighbor in Butsu. Pweeeese. There's a huge chunk of it for sale. Ask Korg. You'll just be staring at my sculptures all day. If you don't like the waterfall noise, I can get rid of it. Don't go!

That's why I think certain Sims should be zoned, either for residential or commercial use. How to enforce it is another issue.

This is exactly why I won't buy SL land.
I would if they had an area that had building codes and I agreed with them. I don't see why LL can't implement some sort of code. I understand they can't retroactively do it because people already own that land, but they could with all future sims.
They already have PG and M, why not add Residential and Commercial "zoning" laws, they have that in real life for the exact same reason! I understand it's not LL's job to act like a government, but if they want to protect their land tiers, I would think they would want to do something.
Right now if don't want to live next to a mall or a club and want to ensure that you never do, you have two options. 1. Don't buy land 2. Buy your own island
That seems like a HUGE leap with no middle ground really.
I guess it requires self-government and thats why I am so interested in the The Neualtenburg Projekt.

I agree with residential vs business zones. I disagree a lot more with PG vs M zones. We're all adults here, and the very fact that a lot of us live in PG sims by choice shows that not everyone wants a club on their doorstep. LL should do away with PG/M and let the people decide.
Not all major land owners own clubs, nor even malls. So a few landowners could form collectives to control sims.

If you want a porch to sit on while you decide what to do.....I have plenty of pleasant viewed land in Mimas........no clubs...just hills and rivers. You're more than welcome to borrow a section for a while....x

I just thought more about the residential / commercial idea. It won't work and I would like to retract that LOL. Try and defining it fairly isn't possible. What is unacceptable to one person is perfectly fine for the next. There are beautiful builds that are commercial that I would be perfectly content to live next door to, Starley's comes to mind. There are other builds that are residential that I would cry if I lived next to. The problem isn't commercial / residential. The problem is a wide variety of player tastes, which is part of what makes SL so interesting. Trying to "force" my tastes on my next door neighbor isn't what I want to do. Yes, they built a mall next door to you, and I understand that effects you and your land, and I really sympathize, that sucks However, SL is a dynamic world, he or she pays for that land, just like you pay for yours. Having thought about the problem, I really don't know the solution, but I do know that it's not residential / commercial zoning. That won't fix the problem. The problem is personal tastes differ across people, which is both a good thing, and, in this case, a bad one. Jess

From: Jessica Robertson I guess it requires self-government and thats why I am so interested in the The Neualtenburg Projekt. Thanks for the good word, Jessica! Speaking of self government and the Neualtenburg Projekt, we have our first elections this weekend for the Representative Assembly. I'm working on the code for the voting page right now. I won't be running for office because I'm serving in another branch already, so if anyone has interest in running their own themed sim, join the group, join a faction, and vote this weekend! ~Ulrika~
