While I can appreciate a good database as much as the next gal, this is pretty Off-Topic and has been moved as such.

I wonder why there's such a blind trust for MySQL, anyway. There are better free alternatives.

A more important question is why the hell are these systems being run on a free database? MySQL is a wonderful database for web site usage, for web applications, but not for a mission critical environment like SL. I am shocked that they are using it.

That certainly doesn't preclude postgresql. It is more free with its bsd license and is more robust.
