Reading about the new urban sims, I sorta flashbacked to my first virtual world experience, Activeworlds.

On a lark, I googled my name and alphaworld (the name of the world). Amazingly, the little town I built was still there! I created it in 1997, when I was... gosh, I must have been 15 then. It had skyscrapers, a chess area, roads, and the whole nine yards.

Not only was it still there, but apparently somebody FOUND the city (which is amazing, considering it's literally in the middle of NOWHERE) and built upon it two years later! Completely fascinating. I'm still exploring it, and finding it's a huge community. I even found my first ever virtual home stead... apparently i removed the house and started to put up an office building.

If you're all bored and want to check out some of my earliest 3d ramblings, it's at AW 6582n 6418w.

Sorry, just thought I'd share my childhood :D

Heh, nothing ever gets derezzed in Alphaworld, it seems.

I lived near 590N 590W iirc, place was called Palladium Township (the guy who was Mayor played Rifts).

For a lark I downloaded the current AW client a month or so ago, for all my nifty computer hardware I didn't discern a noticeable performance boost from when I started in AW back on my P133 in summer 96... oh well.
