what the hell is wrong with these people?

Before I get to my routine of hijacking threads and being frustrated at the state of Mankind, I simply need to vent about work for a moment.

One thing I do at my job is generate lists for books that are sent out from our warehouse staff to our subscribers. After I extract the data for a daily run of these, I print them to labels, which they use to ship them. These are printed on this avery label sheets, 10 to a sheet.

Today, a coworker brought me a bunch of labels in which there had been a problem printing. Evidently the fuser oil was out and so the ink didn't 'stick' to the pages completely.

What gets me is: Instead of bringing the group to me and saying "please reprint these" (which would have taken 5 minutes), these people used all the ones that were ok (about half on each of 70 pages), and then brought me the rest and said 'please reprint these only, so we don't ship twice to people".

So now, I have to manually pull each of about 350 people to print them a fucking label, rather than just reprinting the batch.

Oh and curiously, these are dated 2/23, so they waited 3.5 weeks before deciding to fucking tell me to do this, thus screwing over/pissing off 350 people expecting books.

The lack of logic among these goldfirsh never fails to astound me. If you ever have something delayed in the mail, you can rest assured it's because of the asshat quotient in warehouses. Jebbus fucking Lo Jacobs kissing Christ!

I've had that kinda day too

To cut a very long and very boring story very short, we're supposed to be system testing a second phase of development in an application on Monday. We just had the 'final demo' to the testing team of the finished changes before the dev environment is moved over to the testing environment, and it managed to spectacularly fail on every single new feature. Even to the extent that searching date ranges doesnt even bring up records within those ranges - or even in the same year - which you think a developer *might* just have noticed before the 'final' release.

Oh, and the conversion process for the data (phase one is incompatible with phase two) that would have commenced immediately after signoff at this demo today will take 'between 3 and 5 days'. And the lead developer is off three days next week.

But what do I care? It's Friday evening and I'm going home now. But Monday is gunna be hellish. (And I'll wager that we cant start testing til Wednesday/Thursday in reality, and they give us an entire 2 days to system test before it goes to UAT with all our customers. *sigh*)

I know it's Friday, but....

7:30 p.m. Thursday - Boss lets me know that the bookkeeper was in an accident. He needs me to do her accounting (payout checks, invoices, etc.) stuff for the week. I told him I have no experence with that, he says "It's Quickbooks, you know Quickbooks, right?" I said, "Yes, I know what Quickbooks is....", he then says "Great!" and gives me a thumbs up.

7:00 a.m. Friday - I go into the bookkeeps office (which smells like old man feet), I start to shuffle paper all around like my cat when he gets into my recycle bin. 10 minutes later, boss comes in and asks "Hows it goin'?", I say "I detest bookkeeping, I do computers, the network, and the internet stuff...*grumble*", he says "Great!" and gives me another thumbs up...then he leaves to go play golf.

8:30 a.m. - Office manager comes in, I've finally started to get into a groove figuring out the bookkeeps system - so now is a perfect time to have an office meeting regarding buying the bookkeep a present since she is sitting home with a busted foot and I'm doing her work...I grumble again...

9:30 a.m. - The Construction manager (who is just getting into work) comes in complaining about his vender checks not being ready. I said "tough...people in hell need ice water", he asked if I was being a smartass, I said "No, I'm a dumbass, which is what you call a person who agrees to do someone else's work even though they are not qualified to do it." He laughed and asked, "Do you need some help?", I said "Yup", he said "Cool, when Steve (the Boss) gets back, I'll ask him if he can help you..", I said "Great!" and gave him a thumbs up.

10 a.m. - Finished, or at least I thought so. The Office manager and the Construction manager came in five minutes after I stamped the last invoice and convieniently noticed that I did them all wrong (which was easy since no one told me the right way...) I went outside and had a multiple cigarette and profanity moment.

11 a.m. - Boss calls in to check up. Office manager told him that I did the invoices wrong, but not to worry 'cause she is fixing them. Boss says (over speakerphone) "Well, I guess we should have asked someone more (with a snide inflection to his voice) 'capable' to do it...."

11:05 a.m. - I'm outside again, smoke in hand....a voluminous cloud of the most vile profanity swirling around me.....

Milton was right....I'm going to burn this place down one day.....and I want my Red Stapler back, damnit.
