Ok why is the option even there. Under account summary

390,000 for 195$?

GOM or IGE 40,000 is about 200$ sure not always avaliable.

3.9 Million for 900$

Maybe if it was a bit more reasonable people might look to LL instead of outside sources.

any thoughts?

My guess is LL would rather have the tiers paid in US$.

I still think it would be cool to offer a discounted L$ rate for tier fees in November and December. It would drain some L$ out of the economy and give a bunch of people some extra US$ for the holidays.

I was really happy when they said you would be able to pay land teirs in L$ instead of US$ if you wanted to, allowing you to still live your Second Life close to 1.0 days where it was just an L$ based economy and making it possible for people to pay even less if they can't afford all the land in US$...

Then I was highly dissapointed to see how high it was to do this.

I'm guessing the same as Loki on this one, more than likely its high because US$ is how they prefer you to pay it.

Does anyone even pay their teirs in L$?

Land fees is real income to LL. What is LL gonna do with millions of L$? Nothing. The only value would be is if they are converted via GOM or IGE to US$.

Linden Lab would be legally irresponsible to sell L$ for US$ via GOM or IGE, not to mention fiscally irresponsible, given the volatile market.

Yet, having this system in place gives them the flexibility to do specials, as mentioned, to combat inflation. I imagine though, in the long run, this option would logically become more and more irrelevant as money tampering would be very dangerous as the SL economy grows larger.
