I voted to fix existing bugs. I think that things will be better in the long run if there is a solid foundation to build on.

In the Town Hall, Cory said that version 1.6 will be even more bugfixes and stability work. 1.7 will begin a complete re-write of the rendering engine (making it more efficient, in theory, and less bugridden and cobbled together, resulting in less video problems), as well as the streaming engine (better network code, less lag).

I think you need to makesure something works properly before trying to expand it, therefore I vote fix bugs.

Fixing bugs is the ONLY way to go.....
"Tis a fool who builds his home on quicksand" Salazar hit the nail right on the head. I for one take quality over quantity any day of the week. I ask you all what would you rather have? A game with "few" options which has NO problems what so ever, or play a game with a ton of features but which also "crashes" often, looses items, lag's like a bitch, constantly have server bugs, ect. I think you see my point. Rather have a basic car which RUNS fantastic insted of having the best looking car in the world with a bunch of options, but has no engine, so can't be used........ Quality over quality....... Live it.... Be it..... ![]() _____________________

There is no doubt - must fix existing bugs. Its true... the termites will continue to eat the foundation until the walls come a tumbling down. Also - many will become exasperated and just leave.

Fixing bugs.
I think features actually are a bad idea at any point. One little company can not make everyone happy. Like Khamon said - they should develop a framework so outside developers can make everyone happy. Once they can leverage the community at large to develop features, then SL will really take off. _____________________
Taken from The last paragraph on pg. 16 of Cory Ondrejka's paper "Changing Realities: User Creation, Communication, and Innovation in Digital Worlds :
"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches." |

To be fair, writing software is about compromise. The perfect product would require effectively infinite time and resources, so would never get released. A real-world product goes through a series of evolutionary stages. Yes, SL does need to be thoroughly rechunked in parts (*cough* scripting language *cough*), but it's fulfilled its requirements extremely well up to this point. Azelda _____________________

I've always been a girl who likes bugs fixed first before implenting new stuff that might create more bugs in-game.

Server stability with less lag. Also i've been seeing peoples faces go black unless I am zoomed in or close to them.. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro Celestica Gold Edition Video Card. I've heard that Radeon doesn't do well with SL. Anyone have this problem? It just started happening..i've checked my video settings for the game in Preferences..unchecked everything.

I'm with features too, although - there shouldnt be any reason why LL cant approach both. Consider that they just got a decent amount of VC, to hire more staff with.

I voted to fix existing bugs. I think that things will be better in the long run if there is a solid foundation to build on. I voted for add new features, but obviously that involves refactoring code and fixing bugs in the process. I don't think that it makes sense for LL to spend a lot of time fixing bugs in code that is about to be re-written to add new features. Edit: I should clarify. Fixing a bug is different from making things more stable. Fixing a bug often makes the code base less stable because the bug is fixed by someone who doesn't fully understand the code or the code required to fix the bug is kludgy because the original solution didn't anticipate the bug. _____________________

Yep, bug fixes please !
New features can wait, I just want the existing ones to work reliably right now. It sounds like 1.6 will be aimed at that anyway. Something to address packet loss would be nice, and my whole SL interface and display still breaks up into crazy colours and textures when moving the camera whilst wearing attachments since using the Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL for Macintosh graphics card (bug logged) - I would be soooo pleased to see that go away - sorry to keep mentioning it at every opportunity but it's driving me potty ![]() |

I voted for add new features, but obviously that involves refactoring code and fixing bugs in the process. This is not true, it is based on the false premise that all the code that contain bugs will be worked on for some other reason and that the bug will be fixed as an unintended by-product. Further, refactoring does not necessarily fix bugs although it is generally a good idea. Refactoring can, and usually does, introduce new bugs. Finally, new features implies new bugs--but they need not be fixed either, right? I don't think that it makes sense for LL to spend a lot of time fixing bugs in code that is about to be re-written to add new features. So, you would have us suffer the existing bugs until the code that contains the bug happens to be re-written--if ever? You're Cory, right? ![]() _____________________

Perhaps those who have voted for "fix bugs" or "add stability" could add the bugs into the SLVoting website that they would like to see fixed at a priority? Example could include, but are obviously not limited to: vehicles disappearing at sim crossings, falling offworld at simcrossings, teleports becoming inaccessible (having to relog), etc. These are just some ideas.
The SLVoting website is at http://manageddreams.com/slvoting You'll need an activation device to get your login and password. Just rez it, and it will IM them to you). You can get an activation device:

There will always be bugs, frankly theres some desperatley needed features and improvements SL needs.
Can't wait till some high impacting features come in SL, really need them. _____________________
